JUNIOR ACCESSORIES DESIGNER

POSITION SUMMARY: A Junior Designer at behno will work with Design Advisor, Ashley Austin, and the production team to spearhead design functions and assist with the production of leather goods for BEHNO NEW YORK, a luxury handbag and accessories brand from New York City.Office location: Bandra (West)RESPONSIBILITIES:Design and develop handbags and leather accessories under tight deadlines to meet targets o Conduct research under direction from Creative Director and Design Advisor and compile research to confidently present findings in organized formats.Forecast trend research for leather goods from textures, colors, silhouettes, etc.Market research both online and in-person on handbag trends in existing marketplacesKeep an eye on the street and keep up to date with contemporary society and its needs to create mood boards under direction from Creative Director and Design AdvisorFor embellishment and embroidery conceptsFor leather goods concepts to ensure product is in agreement with business strategyFor photoshoots and other creative collateralTake ownership of design process from initial concept to tech pack submissionIdeate, concept, sketch and design handbags and other relevant accessories based on market research, trends, and feedback from Creative Director, Design Advisor and acting-CEO and both formal and informal capacitiesSelect textiles, leathers, and trims for new stylesMake spec drawings to a high standard (to be used in tech packs)Create and maintain tech packs, for sampling and production, on relevant PLM systems (training can be given)Take ownership of managing design, sampling, and production timelinesLiaise with factories along with production team on daily basis for any design or production related inquiriesTake ownership of editing, updating, and maintaining all linesheets (linesheets for sampling, production, ecommerce, photoshoots, etc.)Review and comment on samples from production factories/vendors and communicate the same effectively to all production factories/vendorsWork closely with production team to ensure all factory relations are up to speed and kept upKeep up maintenance of behno's trim, leather, and hardware libraryMaintain and organize behno's internal design systems and foldersThrive in a fast-paced environment and multi-task and self-prioritize workloadContribute to relevant graphic and other design related functionsFrom time to time, jump into other projects where the brand may need supportQUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in fashion and/or accessories designPreferred 1 year experience in a design role , freshers are welcomedA strong understanding of the design and development process (including production cycles and communication styles with factories)Have practical knowledge and experience in production methods and factory relations o Have strong knowledge about handbag and leather goods construction techniquesMust be highly proficient in: Adobe Suite (with a strong emphasis on Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign) and Microsoft ExcelAbility do sketches by handStrong eye for color sensibilities and texture along with a flair for design with great creativity and imagination with immaculate attention to detailOutstanding verbal and written communication between all team membersAbility to meet multiple deadlinesMust be able to work independently (without supervision) and also in a team environment; must be a self-starter and initiatorMust be able to work once a week on New York hours PRB
