Technical Lead

OverviewAvalara is looking for a Technical Lead to drive forward and oversee exciting new projects across our VAT Platform suite of products and services. A successful candidate will be a well-rounded, experienced technical lead with a proven track record of leading and enabling teams in the design, build and testing of enterprise level software solutions.ResponsibilitiesDelivery of scalable and secure software solutionsHarbour dependent technical expertise across multiple projects/teamsCollaborate with various stakeholders (Product, Engineering, Security etc.) to establish solution specification and leverage deep technical knowledge to oversee executionAnalyse current solutions and procedures to identify holistic areas for improvementOversee and advocate for high technical standardsLead the development and maintenance of enterprise level engineering strategiesProvide support and guidance for junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the organisation (force multiplier, drive components of multiple teams, up-level those around you)Communication of problems/solutions with VPs and other members of senior managementQualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer ScienceExpert knowledge of C# (.NET) and other common languages (Java, JS)Expert knowledge of DevOps (AWS, CICD, TF, K8)Expert knowledge of source control tools such as GitLabStrong understanding of object-oriented design & development and common design patternsStrong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server/ any other RDBMSStrong knowledge of Entity FrameworkStrong knowledge of Web ServicesExperienceMinimum of 12 years of experience in software delivery at an enterprise levelMinimum of 3 years of experience at a Senior Technical Lead levelExperience in leading teams and mentoring junior engineers to successExperience in providing constructive feedback (technical and non-technical) to ensure the best results for the company are metExperience in the communication of technical challenges and solutions to a wide range of audiencesExperience working and liaising with various stakeholders (Product, Programme, Customer Support)Experience working within dispersed non co-located teamsExperience in agile methodologies and processesExperience working with JIRATechnicalExperience in complex solutions architecture designExperience in delivering microservice oriented software servicesExperience in delivering business value within the contraints of monolithic software applicationsExperience in the deployment of monitoring and alerting tools to enterprise level applicationsExperience in the development and maintenance of enterprise level engineering strategiesExperience in analysing and troubleshooting complex issues and critical production problemsOtherExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent attention to detailDemonstrable high standards of excellenceTrack record of a high level of technical judgement, ownership, and executionProven ability to make things happen and meet commitmentsOptional (preffered)Experience in similar business domain or demonstrable experience in building and articulating business domain knowledgeAbout Avalara:We're building cloud-based tax compliance solutions to handle every transaction in the world.
