DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Technology department is responsible for developing technology solutions that contribute to the achievement of BCI's mission and long-term goals. The department manages the Corporation's business applications and information technology infrastructure, providing support to a large group of financial professionals. The department is also responsible for authoring technology-related directives and conducting disaster recovery planning to minimize risk to the Corporation's delivery of investment services.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONReporting to the Director, Enterprise Architecture, the Enterprise Architect is instrumental in implementing Corporate and Technology strategies and participating in projects. The Enterprise Architect will be responsible for developing new solutions and optimizing existing architectures. He/she/they will apply knowledge and expertise to create deliverables in architecture domains such as application, data, integration, infrastructure/cloud, and security, and works closely and collaboratively with internal business clients and various technical teams to produce these deliverables.

The position can be based in either Vancouver or Victoria with travel between the two cities, and has three career progression levels.

Level 1 : Responsible for enterprise architecture operations and projects with a mid-to-high level of complexity, has 2+ years of experience, and works will full competence in the role.Level 2 : Responsible for enterprise architecture operations and projects with a mid-to-high level of complexity, has 5+ years of experience, works at an advanced level independently, and provides guidance and training to others.Level 3 : Responsible for enterprise architecture operations and projects with a high level of complexity, has 8+ years of experience, and works at an expert level independently as an established expert in the discipline/area.QUALIFICATIONSThe following qualifications are illustrative of a standardLevel 2and may be scaled down or up in scope and seniority based upon the level selected.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related STEM fieldUp to 5+ years of experience in an architecture role or as an Enterprise Architect including hands-on experience in an architecture domainProven expertise driving existing architectures to the cloud and leading modernization initiativesProven expertise with rapid prototyping approaches and innovation-oriented initiativesDemonstrated experience with Agile approaches and DevOps practicesExcellent written and verbal communications skillsExcellent planning, problem-solving, and analytical skillsAbility to synthesize complex information and issues with clarityAbility to effectively resolve conflicts among diverse stakeholdersAbility to facilitate, influence, and persuade others towards common goalsProfessional certification(s) in cloud computing, development or architecture is an assetPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The following responsibilities are illustrative of a standardLevel 2and may be scaled down or up in complexity and autonomy based upon the level selected.Enterprise ArchitectureLeads the development of new or optimized enterprise architectures to enable and support the transformation and modernization of BCI's environmentDevelops and implements architecture standards, principles, guidelines, and patterns in alignment with industry frameworks and best practicesDevelops business capability roadmaps and technical roadmaps, and collaborates with business and Technology teams to develop and implement roadmaps successfullyElicits enterprise architecture needs and requirements and develops, analyses, and recommends

new and/or optimized enterprise architecturesConducts peer reviews of architectures-in-development and provides feedback to other technical teams in a productive and constructive mannerInnovation InitiativesConducts research on business and technology trends relevant to the investment management industry and BCI, and identifies specific and actionable innovation opportunitiesDevelops innovation opportunities through rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept processesBuilds collaboration, cohesion, and consensus across diverse groups of internal stakeholders and guides the development, evolution, and execution of innovation initiativesCreates a supportive and healthy working environment within the Department by ensuring effective communication, promoting teamwork, and providing opportunities for other staff to participate in architecture and innovation activitiesTechnical LeadershipProvides technical advice and recommends technical changes that fulfill strategic and tactical needs and objectivesProvides coaching and mentoring support to architecture team members and to other technical and operational teams across the organizationPrepares and delivers engaging, educational, and insightful presentations to technical and non-technical audiences and improves technology literacy, awareness, and engagement levelsCommunicates and/or interacts with internal and external resources including contractors, service providers, and strategic partners throughout the service delivery processProactively identifies risks and issues and proposes solutions to remove barriersUndertakes special projects or assignments as requiredPerforms other related duties as requiredARCHITECTURE DOMAINSFor all levels, additional expertise or experience is required in one or more of the following architecture domains.

Information (Data): Demonstrated expertise or experience defining data frameworks, the structure of logical and physical data assets, and any related data and analytics resourcesApplication (Solution): Demonstrated expertise or experience defining architectures for individual applications, including interactions among applications and their relationship to business processesTechnical: Demonstrated expertise or experience defining how hardware, software, and network infrastructure enable and support BCI applicationsCloud: Demonstrated expertise or experience defining the components required to enable and support cloud computing including front-end and back-end platforms, and cloud service deliveryCyber Security: Demonstrated expertise or experience defining the components required to protect technical infrastructure and environments from cyber threats, both on-premise and in the cloudIntegration: Demonstrated expertise or experience defining the interoperability of different and/or distributed components across infrastructure and environments, both on-premise and in the cloudSALARY RANGEBCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $115,000 - $135,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
