Location: North York, ON - Hybrid 3 days per week on-siteContract Duration: 12 months with a possibility of extensionWorking Hours: 40 hours per weekPay Rate: $40-50Job Title: System Design Specialist - IntermediateJob Description:We are looking for an Intermediate System Design Specialist to join our client's team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing system design, signaling design, network design, analysis, modeling, and simulation to specify communication-based train control systems. Your work will involve developing and defining system design features to meet customer requirements, analyzing and evaluating designs for compliance with technical requirements, and preparing technical contract deliverables.Key Responsibilities:Technical:Convert customer requirements into conceptual designs and prepare associated documentation through operational analyses, simulations, and technical trade-off studies.Prepare system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analyzing and refining customer requirements.Perform technical tasks to define system design, subsystem requirements, and application databases for software subsystems.Utilize specialized signaling and network design skills to ensure system reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability.Troubleshoot complex network issues and evaluate existing communication network designs.Support bids and proposals by assessing customer requirements, conducting gap analysis, and presenting technical designs.Present technical designs and reports to customers and other engineering/management groups.Define or propose updates of processes and standards based on systems engineering knowledge.Ensure signaling design implementation complies with applicable standards and principles.Interface and collaborate with Software, Hardware, and IVVQ groups to resolve test issues.Safety:Promote a safety culture and ensure safety is integrated into the design process by identifying and resolving safety-related defects early.Qualifications:Education:University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Technical/Specialized Knowledge:Strong domain knowledge in automated train control systems and systems engineering principles.Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods, and tools.Familiarity with systems development life cycle.Excellent technical writing, communication, marketing, and presentation skills.Strong planning and organizational skills.Experience with tools such as DOORS and Melody advance.
