Title: Accounting Support (Summer Student) Organization: Purpose Forward Location: Fully remote anywhere in Canada Reports To: CEO, Greg Zatulovsky Position Type: Temporary full-time (35 hours/week from May 6 - Aug 30, 2024) Base Salary: $17.40/hour Target Bonus: Not eligible  About Purpose Forward We are a national non-profit that was founded in February 2021 with a mission to activate operational capacity throughout the grassroots social purpose sector. Currently, we do this through ongoing back-office support (finance, HR, payroll, basic IT), consulting services, training, and research. We have staff and volunteers based from BC to NS with much of the country in-between represented. Our team is fully distributed and has been remote since inception. Objective You will keep our internal financials and our clients up to date with your exceptional attention to detail and customer service skills. You will be savvy at identifying inefficiencies, documenting, and recommending business process improvements along the way. Working closely with the Accounting and People Lead, the Accounting Student will be central to us achieving our mission of helping the grassroots social purpose sector move their missions forward. Duties and Responsibilities The primary focus areas for this position are: Finance Review invoices and receipts for accuracy and apply appropriate coding based on grants, business units, and transaction type. Record transactions in QuickBooks Online and other financial systems. Ensure accounts payables and receivables requests are processed in a timely manner for clients. Support the period end (month, quarter, year) processes to ensure the accuracy of financial information, leading the sales tax and bank reconciliation processes. Develop and prepare remittances and reports for various stakeholders, including management, Boards, funders, government, and staff. Document processes and support the Accounting Lead with conducting client training. Payroll Under the direction of the People, Equity, & Inclusion lead, review the timesheet and time-off information and enter it into the payroll system for processing. Perform analysis and support client employees with requests from the Knit People payroll system. Prepare reports for benefit providers, pension fund managers, and other payroll remittances as required. Record the payroll journal entries (pay and accruals) in the accounting system. Reconcile payroll related accounts and generate relevant reports. Document processes and support the People Lead with conducting client training. Qualifications and Requirements As a detail-oriented student studying accounting or business administration at an accredited Canadian post-secondary college or university, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate good judgement, critical thinking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively. You will be comfortable with using technology and have a desire to learn new tools that make time for you to focus on the creative part of the job. A strong technical aptitude with programming or intermediate MS Excel skills is an asset. An understanding of basic accounting principles is essential, but non-profit accounting can be learned on the job.
