Metal & Mining Reporter - Singapore
Job details
Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time. Bloomberg News is looking for an enthusiastic and determined reporter to cover the global metals industry. The successful candidate will focus on iron ore and steel, particularly in and around China, working with the wider commodities team to break news and write long-form features on one of the cornerstones of the world's second-largest economy. We are looking for someone with an eye for stories no one else is telling in an often opaque beat and demonstrated ability to connect the dots, from the big miners to China's property crisis and beyond, for a global audience. Good sourcing skills and a proactive approach to covering news are key qualifications for a beat that is centered in Asia but has global reach. We expect versatility too, or the ability to write and package material for a variety of platforms including the Bloomberg Terminal, Web, Bloomberg Businessweek and more. You should be able to follow the twists and turns of the market one day, and the next turn your hand to a far-reaching analysis or weekend read. Finally, we will require the successful candidate to be a team player eager to collaborate, as stories often cross borders and overlap with other areas of coverage, from finance to government and climate. We'll trust you to:
- Break news on companies, markets and trends
- Get right to the heart of the biggest stories to interpret wider industrial and economic impact
- Report with speed and accuracy
- Generate quick analysis on fast-paced developments, as well as long-form stories with in-depth insights
- Work seamlessly and proactively with teams across regions and departments
- Be innovative and creative in writing and formatting stories
- At least 5 years of recent experience in financial journalism
- Experience working at a real-time news service
- Experience reporting on metals markets/commodities and/or 3 years experience as a reporter at Bloomberg
- The ability to write clearly, quickly and accurately in English, often under time pressure
- Proficiency in both spoken and written English
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organisation
- Bachelor's degree or degree-equivalent qualifications
- Proficiency in Mandarin is not a requirement, but would be an advantage
