Software Development Engineer, Amazon Corretto

The Amazon Languages and Runtimes organization is looking for an engineer to join a team using innovative methods to optimize Java application performance. As part of the team, candidates will help design and develop technologies using Java instrumentation capabilities. Candidates will contribute to performance optimization and compliance with industry standard JVM specifications. We are looking for people who have a desire to innovate primarily in the Java runtime, but including some native development at the C/C++ level. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a high level of competency in development and knowledge of Java's features, inner workings, agents and bytecode. An understanding of the changes between major Java releases would be valuable. Key job responsibilities * Responsibilities will include contributing to the design of future runtime features, and working with teams and services inside AWS to solve their business challenges using this new Java runtime. * Existing deployments of our product must be supported on an on-going basis, and the team will need to address any critical issues in live deployments and debug potential functional/performance regressions. * The team has a strong culture of collaboration and co-operation. We are looking for people that work well as part of a team and can also work with customers both inside and outside AWS. A day in the life As you design and code solutions to help our team drive efficiencies in software architecture, you’ll create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects. You’ll also: Build high-impact solutions to deliver to our large customer base. Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with your technical input. Work in a startup-like development environment, where you’re always working on the most important stuff. About the team About Amazon Languages and Runtimes The Java team in the Languages and Runtimes organization builds Java JDKs (based on OpenJDK), Java virtual machines, libraries, related adoption and performance improvement tools. We provide consults, tuning, security response, and performance improvements to builders in Java. One of our adoption tools is focused on extending the lifetime of legacy Java versions, providing performance gains found in latest JVM versions to code running on legacy JVM versions. Utility Computing (UC) AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
