Globeleq is 70% owned by British International Investment and 30% by Norfund, the development finance institutions of the UK and Norway, and has a proven track record for supporting the ongoing development of the African power sector. Globeleq's various generation technologies include gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and geothermal. The company is also actively pursuing new opportunities which are emerging from the energy transition, including desalination projects powered by renewables, as well as green hydrogen and ammonia projects.Globeleq is hiring an IT Specialist who will take the lead in developing and maintaining the corporate infrastructure supporting the GSAMS team that maintains and manages RE power plants throughout South Africa and Africa. The role will be responsible for key server and software infrastructure, as well as escalated desktop support. The role supports remote sites throughout South Africa, so it would require occasional travel to these sites. The role would also include occasional international travel to Globeleq power plants in Africa.Key ResponsibilitiesManage business-critical infrastructure, like server and backup infrastructure, active directory, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, etc.
Design and installation of new systems whenever existing infrastructure needs to be updated or for new site implementations
Continuous maintenance of existing infrastructure to maintain high availability and security best practices
Develop and support the team's ticket managing, desktop or server monitoring and other infrastructure monitoring systems
Perform routine monitoring and maintenance such as backups or configuration management in line with management of change best practices
Develop policies that maintain the integrity of the infrastructure and support cyber-security initiatives.
Together with the IT Manager, develop and implement backup policies or strategies for servers, desktops, and other critical equipment
Ensure that critical and security patches are routinely applied to infrastructure and user computers
Ensure IT policies and procedures are enforced and escalate any significant and persistent breaches to the relevant parties
Participate in the development, review and documentation of training documentation, systems manuals, and procedures
Maintain the IT asset inventory, including asset tagging and input into the asset register
Complete capital projects and other focused or continuous improvement projects related to the infrastructure.
Identify, motivate, and implement capital projects supporting business objectives or as part of routine maintenance
Support and implement corporate infrastructure projects that are run at Globeleq group level for GSAMS
Complete any other continuous or focused improvement projects that drive the operational efficiency of the IT Team
Provide general escalated support and administration support within the team.
Provide escalated support on desktops, video conferencing units, telephony, etc., within the team
Provide infrastructure support for the power plant's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
Provide support to the Networking team to support the business networking infrastructure projects
Support and provide inputs into the annual budgets for the IT team
Complete administration activities such as raising purchase orders or managing software renewals and drafting procedures or other documentation
Provide IT support in conjunction with third-party suppliers or internal teams
Engage with Group IT on implementing technology to support and improve the organisation's business activities
Any other tasks delegated by the line manager in line with the role

Good knowledge of Windows server infrastructure. This includes technologies such as: Active Directory, DNS, ADUC, Group Policy, DHCP, ADDS, Azure AD Connect, ADFS, Reverse Proxy
Good network skills, including VLANs, QoS TCP/IP, SIP, RTP, etc.
Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications The following are required for the role:
Minimum 4 years relevant work experience
Must currently have an MSCE (Core Infrastructure) certification or have been actively working in the related area for 3 years or more
Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in virtualisation technologies, for example, Hyper-V or VMWare. A VMWare (VCP) certification is an advantage
Must have knowledge and supporting expertise in Microsoft Windows 7/10/11, Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022 technologies; 4 years for Desktop OS or more and 3 years for Server OS or more. Any Unix/Linux OS experience would be an advantage
Must have a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in MS Cloud-based technologies, such as Microsoft 365, ADFS, Teams, Azure, etc.
Must have a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience supporting VEEAM backup software
Experience with the setup and management of Network Attached Storage (NAS) or Storage Attached Networking (SAN). Dell and QNAP would be advantageous
Must have a minimum of 2 years experience supporting Microsoft SharePoint
The following are advantageous for the role:A good understanding of LAN/WAN technologies (CCNA or JNCIA certification or equivalent)
