WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: We’re looking for a Database Specialist who is keen to work on multiple database platforms. This position is responsible for operating PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, DB2 and Snowflake databases for development, test, and production environments. This individual will become part of an international DBA team and will work closely with application and infrastructure teams to support and manage complex environments. The ideal candidate enjoys researching and implementing new technologies, mentoring teammates on new technologies and best practices . Please note this role can be remote or hybrid in London, Birmingham, Newcastle or Glasgow areas. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installing, configuring, and managing PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.
- Operating Oracle 19c RAC and single-instance databases.
- Operating DB2 11.1 and 11.5 DB2 on Linux.
- Monitoring and performance tuning databases and SQL.
- Working with development teams in assisting in query analysis.
- Analyzing logical and physical database design in evaluating tables for maintenance or redesign.
- Assisting in troubleshooting application issues related to database performance and bottlenecks.
- Providing input/evidence for audits, and consulting expertise in SQL and database development and performance.
- Development, maintenance, and enforcement of database standards.
- This position may require flexibility with hours and overtime. This person will be occasionally on-call during non-business hours.
- 1-3 years of Database Administration experience.
- The optimum candidate should be able to work on busy OLTP database environments.
- Experience supporting databases running in both on-premises and AWS cloud environments.
- Solid knowledge of the privilege systems for all database platforms.
- Familiarity with the AWS cloud environment.
- Experience supporting multi-tenant databases.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in both business and technical areas.
- Proven ability to maintain leading-edge skills in a rapidly changing information systems environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems in complex systems under pressure.
- Experience on multiple database platforms, both commercial and open source.
- Have the right to work in the UK and willing to undergo a background check as this role will require National Security Vetting at Security Clearance (SC) level.
