Summary Jennings O’Donovan & Partners are currently recruiting Design Engineers to work as key members of our Water Services team, in our Sligo office, primarily focusing on water treatment and water network projects. The ideal candidates will be degree qualified in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental or Process engineering and have a minimum of seven years’ experience in the design, procurement or contract administration of water and wastewater projects. Reporting to a Senior Associate team lead, candidates should have good project management skills along with a good understanding of health and safety legislation, the public procurement process and contract forms. You will work alongside our project managers and design engineers throughout the project design and delivery cycle, supporting various design stages of water and wastewater utility projects to include carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs and preparation of reports and technical specifications.   • Level 8 Degree qualified in civil, environmental, mechanical, process engineering or related discipline; relevant MSc would be viewed favourably.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional body.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the design, procurement and contract administration of water services projects;
  • Demonstrable interest in water projects with particular emphasis on knowledge of water or wastewater treatment processes;
  • Experience working on Irish Water / Uisce Éireann projects and/or knowledge of UE standards.
  • Proven project management skills, including budget and schedule management.
  • Knowledge of BIM will be an advantage.
Job Responsibilities
  • Technical and feasibility studies to appraise the practicability of alternative solutions in aspects such as potable water, foul water, surface water and attenuation requirements, including appropriate calculations.
  • Perform preliminary and detailed process design of water/wastewater treatment plants based on data provided; achieving contract specified goals.
  • Preparation of site selection and site assessment reports.
  • Research and development of new process design solutions
  • Preparation of preliminary and detailed designs and tender documents
  • Supervision and Contract Administration of Water Services projects
  • Produce sketches, check and consolidate final working drawings created by designers /technicians.
  • Keep up to date with developments in regulatory legislation and Uisce Éireann specifications that may affect design work.
  • Working with other team members to undertake technical work, site work, and project management.
  • Supervision and development of junior staff.
  • Management of client relationships on allocated projects both internal and external.
  • Conducting site inspections and works supervision.

The ideal candidate will have experience of:
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to learn and develop;
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive.
  • Capability to satisfy client and business expectations and be able to consider the wider financial and commercial implications of their actions
  • Communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing
  • Strong capability in MS Office (MS Word and MS Excel in particular, MS Project desirable);
  • Good knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Proven project management skills, including budget and schedule management.
  • Full clean Irish/EU driving licence
