The Rivers Trust is a leading environmental charity and the umbrella body of The Rivers Trust movement, comprising over 60 independent local charities. Our vision is for wild, healthy, natural rivers, valued by all. We are at a critical point in our history as we expand to deliver projects to protect and replenish this critical part of the natural environment, and our research and expertise is now needed more urgently than ever as water supply and quality move up the public agenda. We are seeking a highly organised, efficient and dynamic individual to take on the brand new role of Fundraising Manager, co-ordinating core and strategic fundraising for The Rivers Trust, supporting and facilitating the Senior Management Team. We have had considerable success with securing project funding, and have achieved rapid growth in headcount and delivery as a result, but we need to increase income for core functions such as HR, IT, finance, communications and project development. We take a team approach to fundraising and income generation, so you will be working with others, but you will also need to take a lead on some projects on your own. You should ideally have excellent people, planning and project management skills, with a proven track record in charity fundraising. You will also have a strong commitment to our mission and a good understanding of environmental issues. Principal roles and responsibilities :

  • Securing additional core, unrestricted funding of at least £250,000 p.a. for The Rivers Trust from a range of sources including individual donations, legacies, philanthropic foundations and corporate sponsorship
  • Managing the administration of these funding awards including application forms, supplying bank details, grant agreements and reporting on outputs/outcomes as required
  • Co-ordinating meetings of the existing Income Generation Working Group and following up on actions
  • Devising and co-ordinating fundraising events/initiatives for staff, members of the public and our corporate supporters’ staff
  • Develop and maintain the fundraising and income generation strategy and plan
  • Take responsibility for implementation of our new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (Access) across the organisation
  • Report on progress quarterly to the Senior Management Team and the board of Trustees as required
  • Ensuring The Rivers Trust's compliance with the fundraising codes for the UK and Ireland
This is a full-time, home-based,permanent position (subject to ongoing funding). We offer flexibility around working hours - time off in lieu is also available. The role is a grade 4 position with a starting salary of £39,037, plus benefits including 9% employer pension contribution.   • 4+ years’ experience relevant for the principal roles and responsibilities of this position
  • Knowledge of sources of funding in the UK and Ireland
  • Experience of using CRM systems
  • Proven communication, influencing and networking skills
  • Excellent planning and project management skills
  • Ability to work with uncertainty, plan adaptively and work at pace
  • First rate interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with colleagues and clients and build effective cross-sector partnerships
  • Evidence of working in cross-functional teams to achieve best possible outcomes
  • Experience of submitting funding bids to tight deadlines
  • A strong commitment to restoration of the water environment and a good understanding of environmental issues
  • Enthusiasm, self-reliance, ambition, tact, discretion and charm
  • The ability to translate technical and complex activities into language that non-technical specialists in funding organisations (and members of the public) can understand
  • Some knowledge of charity law and best practice, particularly around fundraising guidelines
  • Experience of effectively prioritising your workload
