Below are additional details about what is offered at the Peterborough location:40 multi-slide proprietary zinc die casting machines ranging from 12 to 21 tonsFive multi-slide proprietary zinc die casting machines ranging from 70 to 200 tonsInjected Metal Assembly (IMA) up to one tonPrecision tool building with in-house capabilitiesDesign, prototyping, and modeling servicesWide range of finishing surfaces available including tumbling, polishing, shot blasting and thermal de-burringOffers cosmetic or protective coating equipment either through certified suppliers or in-houseWide range of secondary operations including CNC machining, tapping, reaming, and drilling.ABOUT THE ROLEThis position exists in order to operate and monitor the electroplating process, the wastewater and waste evaporator system, and the salt spray (fog) testing center to identified standards and specifications, to support the highest quality and production levels of finished product at the least possible cost to the Company..Key Duties & Responsibilities:To operate and maintain the electroplating process line to consistently produce product that meets or exceeds customer specifications and established production standards.Load barrels with castings, manually move the barrels from tank to tank through the alkaline cleaners, the water tanks, the acid neutralizing solutions ensuring the proper pH reading is maintained, the plating and/or chromate baths as identified on the production lot card and dry castings in the centrifuge;Analyze and maintain tank concentration levels, stop the process to analyze as prescribed in the Operating Procedures Manual for each solution, and adjust concentration levels as required;Visually check the finished castings quality for chromate coverage, plating blisters, casting blisters, poor fill, flash and use ring, plug and/or thread gauges to gauge plating thickness, interior/exterior threads and hole size;Record and chart the S.P.C. data on alkaline clear, acid rinses, plating tanks and all chromate baths for optimum control of tanks.To run and maintain the waste water treatment system and monitor the salt spray (fog) testing cabinet as per established Ministry of the Environment (MOE) guidelines to ensure Company compliance with recognized regulations and standards.Analyze the treatment system, daily, to ensure contaminant levels comply with MOE guidelines prior to release into the sanitary sewers;Continually monitor the system to determine if the chemical or concentration is correct, change toxic metals into non-toxic metal forms; and calibrate the solenoid sensors for the automatic shut off and turn on;Monitor and fix the diaphragm pumps and adjust the strokes to ensure acceptable levels of solutions pass into the waste disposal pre-treatment tanks as per MOE regulations;Analyze the final treated wastewater for zinc and chrome contaminants, add chemicals as specified and take required readings to ensure the wastewater is within acceptable MOE guidelines prior to release into the sewer;Ensure all apparatus required for salt spray (fog) testing meet the standard test method of salt spray (fog) testing, measure solution levels, adjust, and maintain accurate S.P.C. data charts for company and customer use;Monitor parts in the salt spray (fog) unit for corrosion and failure, clean cabinet and apparatus, and ensure salt solution is prepared accurately as outlined in the Operations Manual.To regularly maintain all plating and drag out tanks using established industry procedures and standards to maximize machine uptime and efficiency.Visually inspect gears for wear, danglers (electrical contacts) for breakage and proper connections, and for electro-plating buildup to ensure optimum performance of equipment;Maintain all drag out tanks by placing and rotating barrels in the required solution to regulate the amount of heavy metals entering the wastewater treatment system.To run and daily maintain the waste coolant (evaporator) treatment system and complete required housekeeping duties to maximize system operation and efficiency.Visually monitor the levels of waste coolant for evaporation and fill as required to maintain the prescribed level to ensure proper control over solution temperature, flow rate, air temperature and relative humidity;Other Duties & Responsibilities:Clean the evaporator system when efficiencies of the waste coolant drop.Clean/wash/mop and remove garbage from the work area each shift;Assist other team members as required..Education & Experience Required:High school diploma or GED;Previous experience with electroplating techniques and/or waste water management preferred;Previous experience in a capacity requiring part/product visual inspection for extended periods; andPrevious experience safely operating an electric hand cart preferred..Skills & Knowledge Required:Ability to analyze data/readings and convert into correct chemical additions;Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and correct plating, casting and/or waste water treatment system problems;Thorough working knowledge of electroplating techniques/solutions and different chromate finishes;Experience with dangerous and toxic chemical handling requirements;20/20 vision (natural or assisted) to visually detect casting non-conformances;Basic level mechanical aptitude skills;Fundamental chemistry for electroplating analysis preferred;
