Location: Vancouver, BC Terms: 37.5 hour p/week (1.0 FTE)Application deadline: April 19, 2024Start date: May 6, 2024Compensation: $85,000 to $105,000 per year based on experience, plus 14.5 % in lieu of benefits.Employment type: One-year employment contract with the option of a one-year renewalCommunity Impact Real Estate Society (CIRES) is a unique social enterprise that supports thriving, equitable and inclusive local economies and communities by curating a balanced portfolio of commercial spaces most of which are located in Vancouver's Downtown East Side. The Washington Community Market (the Market), a CIRES community economic development initiative, is a long-standing affordable grocery store serving the DTES population. The Director of Food Security & Market Development will define CIRES' broader role in Vancouver's food security ecosystem while overseeing and expanding the Market. Specifically, you will build relationships with stakeholders to identify local needs and design initiatives to fill these needs. Market responsibilities include assessing the business model, growth planning, managing financial and human resources, and fund development.You will:Provide strategic leadership to CIRES's food security initiatives through planning, organizing, and implementing program delivery. Engage with key stakeholders, including community organizations and government, to identify local food security needs and collaboration opportunities.Analyze the Market's business model to identify strengths, weaknesses, and growth opportunities, including the B2B segment.Develop a business case for the Market's expansion to a secondary location.Review and adjust roles and responsibilities and strengthen the employment-based social enterprise mandate of the Market.Ensure regulatory compliance with food service permits, finances, human resources and health and safety. Monitor and adjust operating costs and key metrics.Set and manage the Market's budget balancing the need to maintain its position as an affordable grocery store while being mindful of financial sustainability goals. Identify and secure funding sources through proposals and grants to support program initiativesYou have:5-7 years of management experience in community food, retail grocery, community economic developmentDemonstrated interest and knowledge in food security, food systems and/or grocery industryExperience with operating, capital and cash budgeting.Experience with supervising staff, hiring, training, evaluating, compensation and other HR duties.A minimum bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related field is an asset. You are:Familiar with and comfortable working in the Downtown Eastside.Able to work collaboratively with both people and organizations Able to communicate articulately, respectfully, diplomatically and with sensitivity verbally and in writing A doer who takes initiative.
