We encourage a corporate culture that respects and celebrates the dignity, value and diversity of all.Role Overview:Our Toronto office is currently recruiting for a Membership and Trust Specialist in our Accounting Department, reporting to our Manager, Accounts Payable and Trust. This role requires a candidate who will ensure that all memberships for professional staff are kept current and paid on time. This includes various law societies, professional organizations, and professional liability insurance. As well as a candidate who is detailed oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will be responsible for:Invoice Processing - Firm's Insurance / Lawyer's Professional Liability Insurance:Management and Invoice Processing - Law Society and CBA Memberships:Main Firm contact for inquires & questionsAnnual RenewalsMembership support to the lawyersLawyers Annual ReportAnnual Practice Declaration (BC)Other Law Society Memberships:Provide info to lawyers wanting to get called to the bar in additional provincesConfirm with practice group chairs for approval for expensesProcess invoices & annual fees associated with the additional Law Society membershipsAdvocates' Society:Annual RenewalOntario, Alberta, & BC Bar Association Section Enrollment:Annual renewalToronto Lawyers' AssociationAnnual RenewalOn & Off Boarding of Lawyers and Students Hire back:Request certificate of good standing from applicable law societyProcess invoices related to bar call, memberships, & insuranceNotify applicable law society, provincial insurer, and CBA of the lawyers start and departure date at CasselsKeeping up to date list of Active lawyersLawPro application assistanceRenewal and new application of BC business licenseInvestigation of prior year in active Trust Balances:Review client matters to ensure no WIP or AR balance to offset the Trust balanceGather all the backup information of the Trust balance, work with lawyers and legal assistants to locate and identify the owner of this balanceConduct MTO or Corporate search if necessary to find out the current contact address to return the Trust balance.Close interaction with lawyers, legal assistants, and Law Society on unclaimed balanceAdditional Duties:Assist with special projects or other duties as assignedThe successful candidate must have the following education, experience and/or demonstrated skills:Diploma or Post secondary education ideally in accountingExperience with accounting software (such as 3E)Preference for those candidates with previous experience in a law firm, knowledge of trust balance activity is an assetIntermediate knowledge of Excel (V lookups, Pivot tables, etc.)Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate initiative to complete tasksDetailed oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlinesStrong interpersonal skills and comfortable communicating with professional staffEmployment Type: Permanent, Full-TimeWhat we offer:Competitive compensation + Extended Health & Dental CareRRSP Matching ProgramEducation/tuition allowanceFitness Reimbursement ProgramDiversity and Inclusion Centric CultureA Culture of Wellness: Cassels recognizes the importance of wellness and provides a comprehensive program that addresses the mental and physical well-being of our employees by providing resources, services, training and support on an ongoing basis.A fully stocked kitchen with healthy snacks, plus coffee, tea, and drinks throughout the year.A business casual dress code (client/day specific)Employee referral bonus.A hybrid work environmentCassels is an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity and an accessible environment.
