COMPLEX SAFETY MANAGER -JBS FOOD CANADA, BROOKS, AB The Complex Safety Manager will be responsible to lead the development and implementation of the Company's Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) policies, systems and reports. The objective is to ensure the Plant layout, equipment design and OHS Standard Operating Procedures, as well as people practices including standardized safe work methods and high-impact behaviors, are developed so as to reduce/eliminate accidents which cause personal injury and/or property damage, reduce absenteeism, minimize WCB and related costs, reduce/eliminate orders and improve the effectiveness of staff involved in Occupational Health & Safety activities.At JBS Canada, our people are our greatest asset. RESPONSIBILITIESReview and monitor (not to intervene, instruct or take responsibility for) on-site Contractor OHS programs and compliance with applicable regulationsEnsure worker safety and hazard recognition as paramount importanceComplete risk assessment in compliance with OH&S and other Safety Regulatory bodiesLead safety programs to effectively and continuously improve safety culturePlan, implement, and coordinate safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions by maintaining and applying knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processesManage and Direct including KPI's for Two Safety Supervisors and Safety Analytics staff to support JBS Canada Occupational Health and Safety goals and objectives.Create KPI's for the developed programs and ensure programs are on trackCompile and report statistics with regards to program outcomes, injury frequency and modified workProvides coaching and technical expertise to Safety Supervisors, Safety Trainers, Production Supervisors and Plant Operations teams as it pertains to the application of safety best practices.Provide technical advice and guidance to Senior Management on how to handle health and safety related problems and make needed changes.Conduct audits and maintain JBS COR program including closing out audit findings, creating audit finding reports and determining proper corrective and preventive actions. Provide feedback to ManagementReview equipment and Contractor RFP's for OHS content; incorporate into OHS program development and training plansEnsure Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) are properly completed ensuring written reports follow the applicable regulations and OHS System.Develops and constructs Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) identifying the basic job steps and tasks and their associated hazards and risks, and develops safe operating procedures and hazard controlsDevelop tools for identifying workplace hazards; develops plant-wide systems that support hazard recognition; develops an effective JHA, manages the JHA based program as a key component of the occupational safety and health management systems; enables plant to move from basic compliance to a pro-active safety management systemDesign and deliver training programs for workers, management and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements and improve Health, Safety, Emergency and Security.Personally respond to all serious accidents, to ensure that proper investigation and follow up is doneCoordinate and liaise with Corporate Health & Safety committee to ensure strategic alignment and adoption of best practices;Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operationsOversees the development, approval and implementation of emergency response plans all areas of the facility, aligned with JBS corporate emergency response system.Ensure records and documentation are kept to protect Company interestsEnsure compliance with all provincial and federal applicable codes, standards and legislationPOSITION REQUIREMENTSPost secondary education in, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health Sciences or related field.CRSP designation preferred but not required5- 7 years experience in progressively responsible H&S roleStrong knowledge of manufacturing business and plant processes and equipmentComputer skills - desktop applications, Health & Safety and HR applicationsThe ability to build relationships and credibility, to be in a position to influence othersAbility to design and evaluate effective training programsStrong knowledge and experience in all aspects of Occupational Health & Safety and SecurityAble to develop and implement Job Hazard Analysis programAble to identify and integrate into safe work methods, high impact behaviors, and develop and apply leading indicator measurementsStrong communication, interpersonal, organization and analytical skillsFULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION Please note that Applicants will be asked to complete a pre-hire medical and drug and alcohol test.
