We are home to the fastest-growing kids-only emergency department in Ontario, one of Canada’s most advanced neonatal intensive care units, and a range of programs and clinics with unique expertise in a number of areas including children’s cancer, digestive diseases, and mental health.The 3V2 Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic, within Hamilton Health Sciences, provides special eye care to the pediatric population in Hamilton and surrounding area. The clinic is comprised of specialists and sub-specialists in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.*Position Summary*The Orthoptist will provide precise strabismus evaluation and oversee therapy of certain conditions including adult strabismus. They will assist in diagnostics and help to determine appropriate management. Orthoptists are an integral part of the clinic team and may act as a liaison between the ophthalmologist and patient/family in developing successful treatment plans.*Schedule Work Hours*Monday to Friday; days. Evenings and weekends may be required.This position is temporary until August 2024*Qualifications - External** Certification in Orthoptics from a recognized institution* Preferred previous experience in an ophthalmologist office or hospital setting as an Ophthalmic Technician or Orthoptist Competency with acuities, stereopsis, IOP, Goldmann's, pupils and lensometry* Knowledge and experience in evaluating disorders affecting visual function* Proficient in non-surgical treatment of strabismus and amblyopia* Demonstrates teaching skills required to provide patient education* Demonstrates computer proficiency with electronic medical records* Knowledge of medical terminology* Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new equipment* Knowledge and skill in office procedures and equipment use related to ophthalmology* Demonstrates effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills within an interdisciplinary team* Effective problem solving abilities* Promotion of a safe work environment and adherence to regulated safety activities* Commitment to Hamilton Health Sciences mission, vision and valuesAs a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.*EEO Statement*Hamilton Health Sciences fosters a culture of patient and staff safety, whereby all employees are guided by our Mission, Vision, Values, and Values Based Code of Conduct.
