We are open to considering a range of flexible working options and patterns with candidates.   Opportunity  Reporting directly to a Production Shift Leader, you will work as part of the MiAlgae Production Team, contributing towards the successful commercialisation of the company’s Omega-3 product and development of future products.   Your primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, operation of clean-in-place (CIP) equipment and filling of bioreactors. You will prepare growth media to standard recipes, seed bioreactors with inoculum, perform routine sampling of product, all while conforming to quality control measures, maintaining batch records and safety procedures on site.   You will be expected to apply your experience and knowledge proactively to basic mechanical trouble shooting, completing standardised work methods and processes, reporting working progress to other members of the Production Team.   The role will require you to work flexibly and tackle problems either as an individual or as part of a team.   Working within a shift patterned production site, you will be expected to work efficiently, conscientiously and under the guidance of Production Shift Leaders to meet time sensitive deadlines. You will be expected to uphold and adhere to health and safety guidelines and contribute towards general upkeep and running of the production site.   Duties 

  • Carry out production site activities, including facility cleaning, equipment set-up and operation, CIP/SIP, basic maintenance of equipment and services.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of production and quality control procedures, carrying out administrative duties including completion and reviewing of Batch Records, COSHH forms, standard production forms and risk assessments. 
  • Monitor, collate and report process outputs and data adhering to good documentation practices. 
  • Support aseptic harvesting of product after fermentation ensuring food safety standards are maintained. 
  • Support routine site maintenance and be part of a team to ensure production processes continue to run as planned.
  • Be involved in cross-department interactions when required, to facilitate business improvement. 
  • When necessary, provide support to research and technical teams via planned experiments at scales of 1,000L and above, where necessary.
  About You  We are seeking driven individuals with a flexible approach to work who are keen to make their mark within a rapidly growing award-winning biotechnology scale-up company.   The ideal candidate will be educated to HND level with industrial experience in a production (ideally food and beverage manufacturing) facility preferably with practical knowledge in CIP, pasteurisation, fermentation, filtration, and or centrifugation.   You will need a keen eye for detail and be an excellent communicator with the ability to work independently and effectively within the shift team. You will have a positive ‘can do’ approach and a keen interest in the use of biotechnology for the benefit of the environment.   Desirable Experience:
  • Experience in a relevant industry for example Brewing and Distilling, Dairy Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Chemical Manufacturing, food and drink manufacture. 
  • Experience of working within health and safety procedures and to SOPs in a production environment. 
  • Good problem-solving skills, with ability to understand basic scientific and engineering problems.
  • Ability to both work and communicate clearly and concisely within a team environment. 
  • Excellent time management skills. 
  • Full, clean driving licence (production facilities may be remote, with no public transport available).
