This is a limited duration position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) . This position is scheduled to end on June 30, 2025. This opportunity is available to current State of Oregon Employees as a job rotation. Candidates applying for job rotation must receive and attach their supervisor's authorization to apply. Candidates who apply for the job rotation without approval will be rejected. This position is critical to ODE’s administration of the new Summer Learning Grant Program, which provides state grant funding to schools to implement summer programs. In this role, you will work as part of a team alongside Oregon’s communities, Tribes, education partners at the national and local level, and community partners to build the capacity of districts across Oregon to create effective and high quality summer learning experiences for all Oregon students. Make a difference that is both measurable and meaningful!   As our Summer Learning Education Specialist you will:
  • Lead development and implementation of the statewide State Summer Learning Grant Program as outlined in HB 4082 (2024) and make recommendations on the allocation of funding.
  • Collaborate in the alignment of the State Summer Learning Grant Program with other statewide initiatives and federal programs, including 21st CCLC grants, school and district improvement, Tribal consultation, IDEA, Carl Perkins / CTE, and others.
  • Develop culturally responsive and inclusive guidance, tools, and other formal and informal resources on using State Summer Learning Grant Program funding to implement best instructional practices.
  • Provide technical support and training to educators, administrators, partners, community entities, and others to support high quality summer learning.
Please click here to view the full position description What you need to qualify Master's degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of K-12 education experience, two years of which includes leadership experience (e.g., lead teacher, instructional coach, program coordinator, or director, school administrator). A Doctorate in Education or related field from an accredited university may substitute for two years of the education experience, but not for the two years of leadership experience. An Oregon Standard Administrative License (issued by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) may substitute for the two years of leadership experience.   Desired Attributes (what we are looking for):
  • Expertise in summer learning programs and best practices, including knowledge of local, state, and federal programs related to summer learning
  • Strong communication skills, including speaking, writing, and presenting
  • Strong organization and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities; work with multiple deadlines, continual change, and at times heavy workloads; and pivot between competing priorities (including many same-day requests) and situations with ease and grace
  • Fluency with office software, applications, collaborative platforms, virtual meeting apps, and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft Office products, Google Suite, Smartsheet, Adobe, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Meeting)
  • Experience or ability to provide advice or technical assistance to school districts, tribes, community groups or public
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with culturally diverse partners and community groups representing a variety of perspectives and lived experiences.
  • Ability to demonstrate a leadership role as part of a collaborative team effort
  • Ability to collaboratively work across the agency, state government, with school districts, public charter schools and private schools
