About the Role: This role is based in the Forward Trading Team within PrepayPower. We are a growing dynamic team of experienced energy market professionals who are responsible for buying and hedging our wholesale gas and electricity supplies for our customers in Ireland, across a range of time horizons. We also manage our Renewable energy trading and origination activities. The team is responsible for forecasting our customer’s energy consumption on a daily, weekly, and longer-term basis. We further support the wider business with customer insights and wholesale regulatory analysis. The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting and leading our energy systems and demand forecasting capability, and will also assist in the development of long term energy scenarios for the team and company. They will be responsible for elements of our board reporting, and support the wider commercial and risk management activities in the team. Main Responsibilities

• Lead our energy price and electricity market forecasting and back-testing activities.
• Develop whole energy system models to enable us to assess the risks and opportunities that come with decarbonising our economy.
• Improve our European energy market modelling capabilities
• Assist management in designing and producing evolving energy market scenarios to inform our risk management tools and reports
• Improve our horizon scanning abilities to identify new residential and commercial demand side technologies, loads and commercial opportunities.
• Support spot market gas and electricity trading activities by being an active member of our wholesale trading rota.
• Assist the team in developing our data structures and help enable efficiencies through automation of work.

Candidate Skills and Experience

• At least 4 years professional and / or academic experience in the energy sector or related research
• Experience of forecasting and analysing electricity markets and experience in Building long term energy system scenarios is highly desirable.
• Knowledge and experience of Wholesale Energy markets
• Experience with tools such as Plexos and TIMES or similar energy systems optimisation tools
• The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can break down complex information and explain it to non-technical audiences.
• Excellent problem solving / creativity skills with an ability to make sense of large amounts of data, from both the top down and bottom up.
• Should continually challenge their own work and have high levels of attention to detail
• Strong data handling or programming skills with at least strong excel skills but with experience in tools such as VBA, python, SQL, Database management, and tableau / PowerBI highly desirable
• Ability to communicate in a structured, clear, and concise manner
• Ability to follow, map and improve processes
• Strong team worker with ability to work on own as well under direction from management.
• Ability to adapt to varying goals and changes in priority
