The Opportunity We are now seeking an innovative, solution focussed, resilient and motivated individual to join our leadership team and play a key role in the transition to a low carbon energy future. We are responsible for visioning and planning the power system and market of the future as well as innovate in how we operate and develop the grid to ensure we meet climate change targets and decarbonise the electricity system. Creating a culture of continuous improvement that drives technical and process innovation is central to delivering on these roles. This role isn’t just important – it’s critical. Working with the CDIO Leadership Team to vision and plan the power system and market of the future. To do this will invovle working collaboratively across the organisation and with our stakeholders as we strive to transform the power system for future generations. The Team The Digital and Information Office (CDIO) comprises highly skilled professionals with a variety of different disciplines, including engineering, commerce and policy, all committed to helping meet the ambitions targets for adding renewable generation to our networks and the electricifation of more of our economy and society. The Future Networks & Strategic Offshore Planning function within CDIO is responsible for generating the first view of how the power system in Ireland will evolve out into the future. The time horizon for the team extends from the short term (e.g. assessing the impact of new connections onto the power system) to long term (e.g. development of a 2050 power system vision). We carry out a broad range of planning activities, including – Visioning for 2030 and beyond to net zero carbon by 2050, detailed specialist system studies, standards and tools development, scenario planning, and offshore planning About you Successful candidates will have the following:  
  • An Engineering degree or equivalent, typically with 6+ years relevant experience with a holistic understanding of the power industry.
  • Experience of carrying out power system modelling and analysis using commercial software such as Plexos, PSSE, etc, and developing bespoke tools to integrate with the commercial software using programming languages such as Python.
  • Posses an understanding of energy targets and ambitions for decarbonisation of the energy sector in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and across Europe.
  • Demonstrate expertise in conceiving and introducing innovative ideas, solutions or new ways of doing things to solve business problems, collaborating with business experts along the way.
  • Show proven experience of managing strategic, power system analysis projects – overseeing the delivery of complex solutions and an ability to drive successful outcomes.
  • Be able to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal.
  • Be willing to coach and develop high performance capabilities in a changing and dynamic environment.
