Building Performance Engineer (Sustainability)

Overview

In this role you will help our clients improve their buildings’ performance, delivering a wide variety of commercial, industrial and residential projects. You will work as part of a team focused on building performance modelling and analysis using advanced building simulation software. The role will also involve on-site building surveys and energy audits. The successful candidate will have a background (whether from 3rd level or professional experience) in Building Performance Engineering and Sustainability and solid technical competencies. Excellent written and verbal communication of technical issues to technical and non-technical professionals will be key to success in the role. Candidates should be resident in Ireland, preferably in Dublin, but remote/hybrid working within Ireland can be accommodated.

Responsibilities include:

• Building Performance Modelling
• Non-domestic Building Energy Assessment Procedure (NEAP) modelling for Ireland Part L compliance and BERs
• Daylight/Sunlight modelling
• Energy Audits
• Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for building carbon (operational and embodied carbon calculations)
• Liaising with clients, consultants and contractors.
• Writing technical reports (e.g. relating to any of the above analysis).
• Writing energy or sustainability reports

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (building services, mechanical, or similar), or similar technical field with professional engineering experience.
• Ability to understand and interpret design drawings and construction documents, including M&E system designs, layouts, schematics, specifications, sequence of operation documents and controls schematics.
• Good HVAC systems knowledge
• Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Desirable skills and experience:

• Professional experience in Building Performance Modelling and/or mechanical (HVAC) design experience with some exposure to building performance modelling.
• Proficiency in DesignBuilder
• Non-Domestic BER Assessor (SEAI) qualification
• Experience in building performance modelling for rating systems such as LEED and BREEAM.
• Experience with energy audits/assessments (e.g. S.I 426)
• On-site experience commissioning or testing HVAC systems
• Qualification in Energy Management or M&V, e.g. CEM or CMVP.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE and CIBSE guides on HVAC design and energy efficiency.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Revit
• Programming skills, e.g. Python
