The job exists to make sure Shakepay is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for its business.Internally: We offer support to each team with their legal questions and requests. Whether it is compliance, privacy, AML, product, contract, the goal is to provide a quick and clear response resulting in an outcome that is not only legally accurate, but also taking into account the values that make up Shakepay.Externally: Protect Shakepay and its customers' interests. Work with external vendors and regulators to reach positive business outcomes on legal arrangements.You willCollaborate closely with cross-functional teams to proactively identify and address potential legal issues and risks.Offer strategic legal guidance on all areas of the business including commercial, securities, consumer protection, IP, employment, privacy, marketing, and regulatory.Contribute to the development and launch of innovative products and services by providing legal supportOffer guidance in regulatory compliance, staying on top of changes in laws and regulations related to financial servicesPrepare, draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and provide legal advice regarding the associated risksLiaise with external law firms when necessary to ensure comprehensive legal support and expertiseEfficiently manage dispute resolution, law enforcement inquiries, and other legal proceedingsDraft terms and conditions, policies and disclosures ensuring legal compliance and transparencyDevelop and implement streamlined processes to enhance the efficiency of legal workflowsMust haveBachelor of law degree and/or Juris Doctorate with provincial bar membershipMinimum of 4 years of experience working in a law firm and/or as in-house counsel in CanadaProficient in legal terminology and operationsSolid understanding of corporate law and commercial lawCritical thinking and multitasking abilitiesContract negotiation and drafting skillsAbility to effectively manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlinesStrong interpersonal and organizational skillsComfortable thriving in a fast-paced culture, with a pragmatic, solution-driven approachCreative mindset and the capability to propose alternative solutions to intricate challengesExcellent oral and written communication skills in EnglishNice to haveExperience in the financial and/or technology industryInterest in crypto and new technologiesCrisis management experienceExcellent and oral written communication skills in FrenchWhy join?Be part of a groundbreaking journey: you'll live on the frontier of financial innovation.
