Director, Research and TrainingOur client, a Canadian not-for-profit that supports stem cell and regenerative medicine research, is seeking a Director of Research and Training to join their team.Key Responsibilities:Management and Reporting ActivitiesManages and motivates a team of three (Research Specialist, Training Specialist, Program Coordinator), providing guidance, direction, and coaching to achieve the company's research and training objectivesMaintains a strategic overview of the company's program activities with a view of monitoring impacts on the design and delivery methods for programing as it pertains to process procedures, and participant engagementEnsures effective communication across the organization regarding the planning and execution of Research and Training programsCollaborates with the VP to understand the vision and strategy for successful implementation of the Research and Training programsDefines efficient and effective ways of delivering Research and Training programs while maintaining high quality processes.Reaching across academic, industry, charitable and not-for-profit organizations to build partnership synergies that benefit the company's programsWith support from the Research and Training team, collaborates with the Corporate Services team to ensure all program metrics are collected and reported annuallyPrepares and recommends to the VP, Research and Training the operational budget related to research and training activitiesIn-conjunction with the VP, serves as a liaison between the stem cell research community (researchers and trainees) and the companyManagement of Research Funding ProgramManages the Research Specialist in the implementation of all elements of the research funding program, from guidelines and application process, through to peer review and the company's continual review process to final reporting and outputsSupports the Vice President in the management of the operation of international peer review committees and Research Management CommitteeSupports the Vice President in overseeing and preserving the integrity of decision-making within funding competition processesOversees the Research Specialist on the research award portfolio reporting, which is provided to the VP, Research and Training, on an annual basisServes as a resource for the company's research community and responds to their inquiries about company programsManagement of Training ProgramProvides management support to the Training Specialist in the design and execution of the company's training program content and curriculum, including the methods of delivery, schedule, and partnerships required for implementation of annual programmingProvides management to the Training Specialist in working with Communications staff to ensure outreach products and training opportunitiesResponsible for the overall management of the company's training-focused committees: Training and Communications Committee (TCC), Training and Education Committee (TEC), and Early Career Researcher Committee (ECRC)QualificationsPostgraduate degree relevant to stem cells and regenerative medicine10+ years of progressive experience in the life sciences and/or stem cell regenerative medicine research5+ years experience in managing staff and the delivery of corporate programsProven track record in continual improvement of program deliveryKnowledge of governance and administrative activities associated with research funding and peer reviewExcellent communications skills and experience in writing scientific text and translating scientific texts to plain languageAbility to take initiative and work collaboratively within a team, and work independentlyPrevious experience working in a not-for-profit environment an assetExperience working in a high performing organization that works across teams, depending on project requirements, and within a functional reporting structureAbility to work effectively in a remote team environment and maintain collaboration with other staffBilingualism (EN/FR) a strong assetThank you in advance for your interest, only individuals deemed to have the skill set and experience to fit the role will be contacted.Lock Search Group is a National Executive Recruitment firm with 11 offices in Canada and one in the United States, a staff of more than 30 Consultants and Associates, and expertise in 11 major disciplines.
