Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services/Treasurer, this position is responsible for the administration of financial services, programs, policies and procedures for the Corporation of the Town of Smiths Falls fulfilling all statutory requirements of the Deputy Treasurer as outlined in the Municipal Act, 2001. The Town through its training and development practices, shall encourage effective internal succession planning. Key duties include:Playing a lead role in administering the financial affairs of the municipalityCo-ordinating and preparing the annual BudgetPreparing corporate and departmental Financial ReportsProvide financial guidance and advice to Department Directors and staffProviding supervision, guidance and leadership to financial staff of the department, including staff schedulingActing in the Director of Corporate Services/Treasurer capacity in their absence.The Town of Smith Falls strives to be an employer of choice. Management/Supervisory: progressively responsible related positions, including experience in the administration of employment policies ideally including experience working with executive teams, Council or Boards in a municipal or public sector setting.Finance: At least three years municipal or public sector experience leading a range of functions including budgeting, capital planning, reserves, financial operations, taxation financial reporting, procurement and corporate services.Critical Thinking: Ability to think and act strategically in a political and community service environment, and align departmental programs/services with corporate goals and objectives.People Leadership: Leadership and interpersonal skills, provide advice and guidance to staff.Problem Solving/ Project Management: Excellent organizational, analytical, research, problem solving and project/time management skills.Technical Acumen: Advanced technical literacy with the Microsoft suite of products, Sage, the internet and proficiency in a range of other computer software applications related to finance, payroll and other corporate productivity software.Legislation: Thorough working knowledge of all applicable legislation, regulations and government processes related to a municipal finance portfolio.Communication: Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.Education: Bachelor's degree with a major in finance, business or a related field and a CPA in good standing is preferred.How to Apply To explore this opportunity, please apply online as soon as possible to careers@waterhousesearch.net quoting project TSF-DT in the subject line.
