The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is the organization that provides governmental, administrative, and operational services to the community of Kahnawà:ke, which is situated along the southern shore of the St. Lawrence River, across from the City of Montreal. The organizational structure of the MCK is comprised of two main sectors: political and administrative/operational. The MCK is responsible for the administration/operational sector which is linked to most of the community's main organizations through the Executive Directors Committee. Purpose of this position:The Employee Relations Specialist's primary responsibility is to Specialist implement employee relations programs and advise managers on the application of employment legislation and the resolution of employee relations issues to maintain employee engagement and resolve issues promptly.Principal Responsibilities:1. Consistently works in a manner that aligns with achieving program goals and encourages others to work in a manner that will also support goal achievement.2. Implements basic changes or adaptations to employee relations programs, with support from manager.3. Assists with the evaluation of programs, identifying strengths and weaknesses. 4. Assists with the development and maintenance of policies. 5. Handles complex administrative tasks related to programs and ensures that it runs smoothly, including handling complex program queries.6. Coaches managers on difficult issues with employees. 7. Leverages knowledge of different coaching styles to adapt style to better align with the individual they are coaching.8. Helps team members develop their skills and abilities.9. Develops and conducts management training on harassment and discrimination, employment law, performance reviews, discipline, termination, ethics and personnel policies and regulations.10. Conducts investigations into employee relations issues that have been escalated.11. Takes action to remove obstacles and address problems before they impact performance and results.12. Effectively navigates through ambiguity, using multiple data points to analyze issues and identify trends.13. Draws logical conclusions and provides opinions and recommendations with confidence.14. Takes ownership over decisions and their consequences.15. Ensures compliance with legal requirements, maintains confidentiality, and communicates outcomes effectively.Competencies and Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience in Human Resources.• Knowledge of, and experience in Employee Relations concepts and applications.• Knowledge of, and experience in program planning and development• Excellent coach abilities • Collaborative spirit, flexible and reasonable.• Attention to detail and excellent follow-through are required.• Ability to build strong relationships, and business network ability.• Ability to solve problems and think creatively and analytically.• Ability to use sound judgment and take initiative.• Ability to work independently and with a team.• Supervisory experience and ability to provide guidance and direction to others;Additional info:• In-office position - Located at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke building, Kahnawà:ke, Quebec• Full-time position - 37.5 hours per week - hours of operation 8:30 am to 4 pm• Occasional overtime required• A full job description and the application checklist to be completed can be found at http://www.kahnawake.com/org/hr/jobs.asp• Applicants must provide, a letter of intent and a resume• Starting range - $1,232.25 to $1392.00 per Week (based on education and experience)• Competitive benefits packages, including a defined benefit pension plan.Note: All candidates are welcome to apply but preference will be given to Aboriginal candidates.
