To be eligible for a Summer Student position, you must meet three criteria before applying:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must be enrolled in a full-time postsecondary education program.

What You'll Get To Do The Summer Student - Environment/Safety provides support to the plant by ensuring a safe and productive work environment. In this position, you will have the opportunity to use different skills every day as you learn the cement industry and other job-readiness skills. Environmental
  • Participate in Water Quality Monitoring Program
  • Conduct audits of and maintain documentation of spill response equipment
  • On-site inspection of water treatment equipment to ensure systems are functioning
  • Assist with development of learning modules/and or presentations of Environmental programs such as spills response and waste management
  • Review and update existing environmental manuals
  • Any other duties as assigned
Safety
  • Maintain employee training matrix and coordinate training schedules with plant and external training providers
  • Manage and update safety communication and contractor orientation matrix
  • Review safety compliance of submitted forms, training materials, memos, etc.
  • Track and assist with follow up on corrective action completion
  • Conduct noise surveys and atmospheric testing
  • Review and audit Lock Out/Tag Out/Try Out procedures
  • Update vehicle segregation plans
  • Participate in region audits
  • Any other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
  • Currently enrolled in relevant post-secondary education program - Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Technician/Technology, or similar discipline preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Comfortable with working in a manufacturing environment (dust and noise) and outside (cold or wet conditions)
