Apply your expertise in geospatial analysis to tackle pressing environmental and climate challenges. Help deliver evidence and actionable insights for climate response, adaptation, and mitigation strategies, and improved environmental outcomes. Using your geospatial proficiency and scientific knowledge, work alongside other scientists, analysts, and researchers to deliver applied research projects in Auckland Council's Research and Evaluation unit (RIMU). Your analysis will focus on examining environmental changes and their impacts, to support risk and vulnerability assessments. If you're passionate about utilising data to inform policy and strategy, this is the opportunity for you to make a tangible impact on environmental decision-making. Some of the key initiatives you will be responsible for include:
  • geospatial analysis of ecosystems to identify areas and habitats vulnerable to climate change
  • participating in regional and national research programmes to understand carbon sequestration potential of different ecosystem types
  • developing methods and approaches for marine and coastal habitat mapping
  • developing methods and approaches to mapping and measuring landuse change
With a post graduate qualification in a relevant scientific discipline (environment, coastal/marine, hydrology, oceanography), you have demonstrated experience as an applied environmental scientist in a research field. We will value your ability to provide subject matter expertise and scientific oversight in delivering a research programme. Other skills that will enable you to be successful in this role are as follows:
  • advanced knowledge and expertise in GIS for spatial analysis and mapping, and/or experience with remote sensing applications
  • experience in developing and executing geospatial research
  • high-level proficiency in quantitative statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting
