Exciting Leadership Opportunity: Medical Affairs Lead – Remote, UK Venari Partners has been retained by Bavarian Nordic, a fully integrated vaccine company focused on the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of an expanding portfolio of life-saving vaccines. Bavarian Nordic is looking to boost its global commercial presence and launch into new country markets. To this end, they are looking for an experienced Medical Affairs Lead to spearhead the establishment and growth of their UK affiliate. This person would need to be someone with a strong medical affairs background and excellent knowledge of the pharma industry regulations. They would need to boast an in-depth understanding of both the Vaccine space and the healthcare market within the UK. This person will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company’s medical strategy within the UK market and will be focused on establishing the UK entity and planning and executing numerous product launches over the next 12-24 months. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and roll out the Medical plans for the UK, in line with the Commercial and Global Medical Objectives, that allow for clear insight gathering, and adequate and effective (external and internal) communication of key scientific information.
  • Establishes scientific relations with Key External Experts (KEE) in the relevant scientific fields - responsible for the development and execution of a KEE engagement plan.
  • Ensures data sharing with recommending bodies, allowing them to make informed decisions.
  • Collects information from the scientific community about the portfolio of vaccines and the services we are offering (or could offer), and shares insights within the organization.
  • In charge of medical input into local adaptation (or de novo development) of medical material, as well as local training of internal teams.
  • Conducts approval of activities in the UK, according to ABPI Code standards.
  • Conduct scientific interactions about Investigator-Initiated Research and Grants & Donations.
  • Collaborates with Global Medical Affairs Leads when specific expertise is required.
  • Ensures input and alignment with Commercial in the development of local Commercial plans, roll out of Commercial strategies, and development of marketing material creation.
  • Oversight of Medical review and approval of marketing material, in line with local regulations.
  • Ensures continuous appropriate training for the function.
Ideal Candidate with have:
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in Medical Affairs.
  • Experience with vaccines, especially travel vaccines, preferred.
  • Final ABPI Medical Signatory (certifier) experience.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of appropriate regulations and codes of practice (ABPI, Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association (IPHA), Code of Advertising Practices (CAP), other codes, laws, and regulations, including Data Protection, Conflicts of interest, Antifraud, Anti Bribery Act, Anticorruption, Competition Law).
  • Excellent knowledge of pharma industry standards & guidance for promotional and non-promotional activities.
  • Ability to develop and roll out processes and systems, in compliance with rules and regulations – Irreproachable attention to ethics and compliance.
  • Highly skilled in understanding interpreting and explaining complex scientific and medical details – with top experts as well as with the lay public.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and explain complex scientific and medical details.
  • Excellent verbal and written scientific communication skills, good network builder, excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Great sense of accountability and ability to work independently.
