What’s expected of you? DeterTech is seeking an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to play a key part in our highly-regarded engineering team based in Telford. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design of our award-winning, high-volume, remote security products. Our business has a significant number of major customers in the security sector and an exciting roadmap of projects to be involved in. You may be asked to travel around the UK and occasionally to our other offices in Europe. DeterTech is constantly striving to improve our product lines for our customers and these goals for excellence are focused on high-quality engineering. As such, you will perform continuous improvement to our existing products. You will be involved in all stages of the production, design and manufacturing lifecycle where you will be able to grow and expand your current experience. Key duties include:

  • Be responsible for designing and supporting future new products into mass production.
  • Take on board requirements specifications and create electrical/electronic designs.
  • Choose electrical/electronic components, design schematics and layout the designs.
  • Manage the full design life cycle. i.e. Get prototype boards made, tested to the specification and adjust as needed
  • Hands-on electrical testing of designs produced
  • Create full test specifications for use during manufacture and production
  • All designs to be done with EMC compliance in mind
  • Look after legacy designs and their redesign if components are obsolete
  • Handle component obsolescence across all electrical/electronic components
  • Liaise with Group engineering teams to ensure designs are viable
  • Directly report to Chief Technology Officer
Professional experience and qualifications:
  • Degree qualification or relevant experience level
  • 3+ years of industry experience
  • Full design cycle experience – concept to manufacture/new product introduction
  • Proven track record of hardware design is essential.
  • Electronics Circuit Design (analogue/digital)
  • PCB Design & Schematic Capture – high-density multilayer PCBs (up to 12 layer)
  • Schematic Capture experience – Altium or similar
  • Embedded software development experience a definite advantage - Embedded C, C++, Python. Java
  • Working knowledge of a variety of microcontrollers (ARM, STM32, PIC)
  • Experience of 8,16, 32-bit microcontrollers & microprocessors – NXP IMX6/8
  • Working knowledge of HD camera technology and their processor interfaces is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience network interface - I2C, SPI, UART, USB, RS232/485, Ethernet, Wi-Fi.
  • Knowledge & hands on experience interfacing with GSM modems/networks essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of low power network devices and protocols such as ZigBee, BLE, & Lora desirable.
  • RF circuit layout experience.
  • Experience of CE approval and design for EMC testing
  • Creation of technical documentation

  • Continuous learning: An electronics design engineer must be willing to continuously learn and keep up with the latest developments and technologies in the field.
  • Adaptability: The field of electronics design is constantly changing, and engineers must be adaptable and able to work with new technologies and tools as they emerge.
