We are looking for : EHS Engineer (Certified SHO) Location : Bayan Lepas, Penang a) Waste and Environmental Management
  • To coordinate and manage vendors and contractors who conduct jobs onsite, by providing them with necessary information and training, and ensuring that their activities comply to regulations and the client’s requirement.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of site waste management (scheduled waste, general waste, etc.).
  • To coordinate analytical testing, identify waste categories, solicit, track and report waste data in a timely manner. To maintain all associated records in accordance with the client’s waste management requirements as well as local legal requirements.
  • Responsible for air emission and industrial effluence, and all activities as per the Environmental Mainstreaming Directive, to ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements and conform to site chemical and waste management procedures.
  • To support and implement client environmental improvement programs such as waste reduction, recycling and reuse, etc.
  • To attend necessary continuous education courses to ensure valid certification as a DOE-approved competent person for scheduled waste.
b) Safety and Health Contractor, Project Management and Facilities maintenance
  • To coordinate contractors for facilities maintenance activities in accordance with the client’s contractor management procedures, building space utilization procedures, and other applicable EHSMS procedures. This includes ensuring that contractors are properly qualified and trained for the task, and that all pre-work requirements are satisfactorily met.
  • To review contractor Work Method Statement and HIRARC prior to commencement of work.
  • Inspect contractors’ on-site activities and work site to ensure jobs are conducted in accordance with the Work Method Statement, conforming to the client’s EHS requirements, and always complying with applicable regulations.
  • Escalate and rectify any unsafe conditions, confront any unsafe act or non-conformance to EHS requirements, and follow-up on closure of actions to reduce EHS risks.
  • In the event of an incident, to report and escalate the issue, and investigate thoroughly. All actions are to be followed through to completion.
  • To facilitate internal and external communication of EHSMS and relevant information, and deployment of training through the contractors’ EHS communication package, to all the parties engaged to provide services on-site.
  • All complaints related to health and safety (facilities-related, indoor air quality, etc.) is to be investigated and validated, and a root cause determined with proposed feasible solutions. This is to be logged and tracked, and where required, conduct a trend analysis on the complaint and follow up on the action plan until closure.
  • Attend necessary continuous education courses to ensure valid certification as a DOSH-approved competent Safety and Health Officer (SHO).
Emergency preparedness and response
  • Oversee inspection and maintenance of emergency response equipment (AEDs, First-aid stations, communication systems/ tools, emergency showers and eyewash, fire extinguishers and
emergency alert/ triggering system, ERT response cabinets etc.).
  • Maintain, test and review effectiveness of emergency response procedures associated with the facilities function, and train all facilities personnel, in order to meet client’s emergency preparedness and response procedures.
EHS Management System
  • To maintain documented information/ legal records, and support EHS audits associated with the facilities function, as contained within the site EHSMS procedures.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Environmental, Health and Safety, or equivalent. Willing to consider advanced/ higher/ graduate diploma holders in similar fields, depending on level of experience.
  • Possessing an internationally recognised professional qualification such as NEBOSH would be an advantage.
  • Certified and registered Safety & Health Officer (Green Book holder) with the Department of Occupational, Safety & Health (DOSH)
  • Competent person for CePSWaM, registered with the Department of the Environment. Familiar with the eSWIS reporting system.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience within EHS, in either large or medium-sized manufacturing companies.
  • Familiar with Malaysian Guidelines and OSH Regulations specifically OSHA 1994, FMA 1967, FSA 1988, EQA 1974, etc.
  • Must have good communication and coordination skills. Can bear hardship, is hardworking, have a strong sense of responsibility for work, with a huge desire to learn, and strong teamwork spirit.
  • Good presentation skills and well-versed in Microsoft office applications.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as in a team when required.
  • Possess own transport.
