We seek an experienced and highly skilled Senior Data Modeler / Data Architect to drive the design and implementation of our next-generation data warehouse on the Microsoft Azure platform, leveraging Databricks as the core technology. This is a pivotal role in our bank's digital transformation, where you will guide the creation of a robust and scalable data architecture to power advanced analytics and insights across the organization. You will oversee and govern the expansion of existing data architecture and the optimization of data query performance via best practices. Be a key member of the team that develops, enhances and supports the Bank’s data platform to deliver the high levels of data quality and integrity required by the Bank to deliver on its commitments and obligations to maintain data accuracy and security. Working within the Technology Solutions team, you will be responsible for architecting the data models in the new data environment and oversee improvements and the transition of the current data model for operational data systems, that both feed data to the analytics and reporting systems to deliver compliance and management reporting. Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a thorough data architecture strategy that is focused on developing the Databricks data warehouse in a sensible, progressive manner and in line with business objectives.
  • Establish and put into use logical, physical, and conceptual data models that are optimum for efficiency, ease of usage, and maintainability in the Azure Databricks ecosystem.
  • Build and oversee procedures, guidelines, and instruments for data modelling, ETL/ELT, and data governance while making sure best practices are adhered to.
  • Closely collaborate with technology teams and business stakeholders to convert business needs into workable data models and warehouse rollout schedules.
  • Promote a culture of continual learning by offering exisiting data engineers and data modelers technical leadership, mentorship, and knowledge transfer. Oversee the workload of a group of data engineers using a matrix approach to create and execute the use cases that are ranked highest priority. 
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends in data architecture and data modelling, with a specific focus on financial services and the New Zealand regulatory environment. Provide expert hands-on engineering technical support and guidance.
Your experience will include: 
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data modelling and data architecture, with demonstrated success in building large-scale data warehouses in cloud environments (preferablyAzure).
  • Deep understanding of Databricks architecture, data modelling concepts within Databricks.
  • Strong proficiency in Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, and relevant integration patterns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored to both technical and business audiences.
