ROLE SUMMARY: The British School of Bahrain (BSB) is seeking to appoint an outstanding Head of Instrumental Music for August 2024 . The Music Department presently consists of a Director of Music, Lead Teacher of Music, 5 academic music teachers, 2 full-time instrumental tutors, and a team of visiting instrumental tutors . This is a thriving and ambitious department encouraging our students and teachers to be musicians in the classroom and the wider community. BSB is fully involved in the regional BSME Young Musicians of the Gulf competition as well as the global COBIS Music Festival. In February 2024, BSB is excited to host this event on the island for the first time! The British School of Bahrain is committed to providing a high-quality, international education for students in the Kingdom of Bahrain. We are a selective, coeducational, independent nursery through year 13 school. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales, with some adaptations to the local context and offers IGCSE and A-Level/BTEC examinations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: We are looking for an outstanding full-time Head of Instrumental Music. The successful candidate would be an instrumental specialist (piano, brass or woodwind) able to tutor students from beginner to Grade 8/Diploma level. Tutoring of the piano and accompaniment of students will also be required. Previous experience in leading whole-class instrumental and larger ensembles would be an advantage. Applicants will be academically able, with a degree in the subject, and they will also be enthusiastic and collegiate teachers. Involvement in the wider life of this outstandingly successful British School is expected. All teachers are expected to facilitate and maximise the academic progress and pastoral welfare of each assigned student.
