Overview

The Global Optimizer Development Department's (GOD) charter is to optimize crude allocation and the operations of global manufacturing facilities in order to maximize revenue, increase profitability, and capture international market opportunities. The division also acts as the LP gatekeeper for wholly owned refineries and the global MPIMS model, and maintains an integrated global planning model which is used for optimizing global crude allocation and exploration of new international markets and integration options.

The Linear Programs (LP) Modeling Engineer consults on complex engineering and LP problems, and reviews existing LP model structures, recommending improvements as required. This role will also have the opportunity to build a new grassroot refinery LP model, mentor and train less-senior LP engineers, and provide specialized technical service in recognized engineering fields.

Linear Programs (LP) Executor is reponsible to:

 

 

  • Develop, maintain, and run combined refineries and distribution network Linear Program models to optimize the Saudi Aramco's wholly owned and JV refinery systems operations.
  • Develop and maintain the custodianship and integrity of the multi-plant M-PIMS and multi-period X-PIMS models linear programming models.
  • Run the Global XPIMS model to perform the Short-Range Operating Plan (SROP) for the Kingdom.
  • Optimize the economics of the Saudi Aramco's refining system for Short-Range Operating Plan (SROP), including the optimization of inventories at refineries, bulk plants, and minimize product supply costs.
  • Develop the optimal supply plan for the refined products distribution system to meet the kingdom's demand in a most cost-effective manner and to ensure healthy inventory limit at all bulk distribution plants and Saudi Arabia's strategic storage sites.
  • Liaise with Domestic Sales & Marketing Department to negotiate customer movements in light of potential opportunities or to highlight any infrastructure limitations.
  • Establish the most optimal logistics plan including truck hauling for all routes within the Kingdom. Communicate and agree on such plan with all desired stakeholders.
  • Communicate major pipeline utilization and "month-average" batches to Pipelines, Distribution and Terminals Department.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

 

 

 

  • Prepare the Refined Product Crude Quota and ensure that the Kingdom quota is adhered to the in SROP plan.
  • Evaluate the impact of domestic shipping of products, against the option of importation in the kingdom, thereby identifying the most optimal synergies between the wholly owned and JV refineries.
  • Perform different sensitivity cases to optimize each refinery stand-alone and within the global kingdom-wide perspective.
  • Work with all concerned organizations to determine the optimum mode of operation for the facilities.
  • Work with the other refineries LP Engineers to ensure that the model contains the latest up-to-date refinery process data.
  • Interface with refinery LP specialists, distribution specialists and terminal operation specialists to obtain the latest planning process related data for the Refined Product System.
  • Define data and work process required to maintain and update LP models.
  • Perform back casting studies, product quality giveaway studies, model reconciliation studies and any other special studies required by the refineries and management.
  • Perform model reconciliations with help from Refinery LP specialists to determine areas in the LP model that need improvement.
  • Perform special economic studies using the LP model including analyzing the break-even value for various refinery feedstock in refineries and presenting supply system debottlenecking for management and other concerned parties.
  • Overall communication of any issues the refinery is experiencing that affect the trading business.
  • Work with the Trading and Refinery Planner to form the basis of the team that has a significant role in delivering the Refinery Supply/Refinery commercial performance
  • Alignment of Planning Models between different Business Units
  • Offer training in LP Modeling & Optimization to new comers and company-wide employees.
  • Optimize value chains across Saudi Aramco.

Minimum Requirements

 

 

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering related field, MBA or a relevant advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in oil and refinery industries, with an in-depth understanding of crude, gas, NGL and refinery processing units.
  • Expertise in LP modeling, with at least three years of experience in Aspen Technology's PIMS model.
  • A thorough knowledge of engineering practices, economic principles and calculation methods.
  • Expert in international business and cross-cultural professional practices
