Job Description

Overview We are seeking a Mineralogist/Clay Mineralogist to join Exploration Core Laboratories Division of the Geological Operations Department The Exploration Core Laboratories Division is responsible for providing advanced Laboratories support to exploration, development, and unconventional activities. Saudi Arabia. Duties & Responsibilities You will be required to perform the following: • As a successful candidate you are expected to establish a Stander Operation Producer in diffractogram interpretation involving multiple methods (Rietveld, refinement, Mineral Intensity Factor, etc.). • You will also apply mineralogical/clay mineralogical profiles to diagenesis, paleoclimate studies, drilling stability issues, adjustment of mud recipes and estimation of petrophysical parameters (grain density, porosity, permeability, weathering intensity, brittleness index, etc.). • You are also required to train new laboratory analysts and technicians with appropriate interpretation techniques including Rietveld refinement, peak fitting, and full pattern fit and deconvolution methods. • You are expected to be familiar with laboratory analysis for quality assurance of mineralogy datasets, and provide quick operational responses and analyses in office and also in rig-sits. • You will also have the ability to Interpret X-ray diffraction patterns and integrate mineral dataset with scanning electron microscopy, X-ray fluorescence and stable isotopes data, and provide analysis of Graphical and statistical evaluation of geochemical datasets. • As the successful candidate you should prepare advanced technical reports, scientific papers, patents and presentations to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders. • You also need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with safety protocols and manage laboratory operations, and effectively collaborate with geoscientists, engineers, and other professionals within a multidisciplinary Group. • You should also provide mentoring and technical coaching to young professionals and laboratory technicians. Minimum Requirements As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor s degree in Geology from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred. You will have ten years of experience in industrial mineralogy. • You will have strong understanding of X-ray diffraction, and bulk and clay mineral analysis. • You must have expertise in qualitative and quantitative crystallographic planes. • You will also have an expertise in integration of XRF, SEM and stable isotope analytical techniques with mineral datasets. • You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of crystallographic parameters such as clays (illite, kaolinite) crystallinity. • It is also necessary to have experience using X Pert Highscore, JADE, FULLPAT, and NEWMOD for bulk rock and clay quantification. • You will have knowledge of industry standard software packages (e.g., ODM, IC, Illustrator. Petrel, etc.), knowledge of statistical tools (PCA, Eigen-vectors, etc.), and work in a team with excellent communication skills. • As a successful candidate you will show data management skills, provide core to wireline log data integration and interpretation. • You will have to promote open and effective communication, in written and spoken English, and to coach young professionals and junior colleagues to help their development.
