Job DescriptionLocation: Wotton-under-Edge, GL12 8JR (20 minutes north of Bristol)Salary: Up to £50,000, depending on experienceHybrid working: 1 day per fortnight at our New Mills Global HQRenishaw is one of the world’s leading engineering and scientific technology companies, with expertise in high precision metrology, healthcare, and Additive Manufacturing (AM). We design and manufacture AM turn-key solutions based on a process called metal powder bed fusion (or laser melting). Our products are used by customers in their cutting-edge engineering projects, in market sectors ranging from automotive to aerospace.As a Senior Software Engineer at Renishaw, you’ll be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and integration of software components embedded in the control and monitoring of the AM 3D printing process, at the core of our AM machines. You’ll be part of our Machine Software team, using Agile (Kanban) methodologies, DevOps practices and collaborative software engineering tools. Our software is developed using C++, C# (.NET Framework/.NET Core), PowerShell, Python and other design and configuration technologies. You’ll also have opportunities to gain specific domain knowledge, as well as getting involved in the state-of-the-art technology from R&D projects.As a business, we are continuously involved with R&D for new products so, from time to time, there will be a need to attend site to carry out certain tasks and we’re likely to ask you to attend more often during key phases of projects.ResponsibilitiesParticipating in the entire software development lifecycle, from specification, design, and test-driven development, right through to deployment, verification, and maintenance of software components.Collaborate as part of an Agile Software team, ensuring quality, timeliness, value, and requirements are at the forefront.The opportunity to supervise and mentor junior engineers through their early career.Contribute towards continuous improvement and innovation of AM software projects.Key requirementsDegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, another relevant STEM subject, or demonstrable equivalent experienceExperience of developing performance-critical C++ components (multi-threading, cross-platform, inter-process communications)Understanding of Object-oriented programming and SOLID design principlesExperience within an Agile development, using DevOps practicesUnderstanding of distributed version control systems (Git) and software design languages (UML/SysML)Desirable requirementsExperience with C# .NET, PowerShell, Python, MatlabExperience with MS Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, Jira and Confluence, Enterprise ArchitectPerson specification In this role, you’ll be enthusiastic about innovative software solutions to solve complex problems, as well as someone who works well in a collaborative team environment.
