Global Vice President of Legal, Product, Engineering, Privacy, and IP (PEPI) HubSpot’s Legal and Compliance team is a key business partner and trusted advisor that strategically counsels the leadership team to ensure HubSpot grows in a compliant and ethical way while managing risk in our culture of autonomy, customer centricity and accelerated growth. HubSpot is now looking for a Global VP of Legal to lead our Product, Engineering, Privacy & IP (PEPI) legal team, a global team responsible for identifying and managing legal issues and risks during all stages of product development. This VP will report to our Chief Legal Officer and serve as a strategic partner to our Product, Engineering, and Executive leadership teams on product, engineering, privacy, AI, IP and other matters associated with our product development and launch efforts. In this role, you will:
- Lead the legal Product, Engineering, Privacy, and IP team at HubSpot, a global cross-functional team of lawyers, legal specialists, and privacy specialists.
- Serve as a senior leader, helping to develop and mature our product counseling and partnership practices.
- Partner with executive leadership to future proof key strategic initiatives, involving customer data, responsible AI, privacy by design, payments and cybersecurity.
- Be a leader on emerging technologies and related evolving compliance requirements, regularly being a thought leader for employees, executive leadership, Board of Directors, and customers.
- Partner with our Chief Product Officer, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer on recommendations to senior management regarding responsible AI, privacy, data governance, data security, insider threat, cybersecurity and intellectual property management.
- Engage with product development and engineering leaders to ensure appropriate legal considerations are taken into account in the development and launch of our products and services.
- Lead the privacy operations, DPO, and privacy compliance teams, enabling best-in-class privacy and compliance
- Lead efforts to develop global strategies, standards, and policies for our privacy and data protection practices.
- Collaborate with other legal and product stakeholders to develop creative solutions for novel, complex privacy issues.
- Monitor privacy and AI trends across markets to determine trends and issues for the company to address.
- Ensure HubSpot complies with global privacy and data protection laws and emerging laws on new and emerging areas, including, without limitation, CCPA, PIPEDA, GDPR, and other global data protection and AI requirements
- Act as a partner on strategic partnerships, investments, M&A involving technology development, acquisitions, partnerships and alliances.
- Develop regulatory strategy with global privacy regulators in connection with new product features and initiatives.
- 15+ years industry experience, at international, rapidly scaling and/or scaled technology companies with a focus on emerging technologies, product development, engineering, privacy, and IP.
- Familiarity with the legal and ethical implications of AI, and the technical aspects of AI systems, including large language models and machine learning.
- Have managed global functional groups in legal departments, in particular in division, product and privacy counsel areas
- Ability to work closely with data scientists and other technical experts to understand AI systems and provide legal guidance on their development and deployment.
- Ability to communicate with business partners about regulatory obligations and risk management processes.
- Acted as a trusted advisor to and effective collaborator with Product, Engineering, Chief Technology Officers, Compliance, Risk, IT, Corporate Development, and other business functions on product and privacy-related matters
- CIPP/ CIPM/ FIP/ CISSP/ RIMS-CRMP / GRCP or similar certification a plus
- Have familiarity with the risk & compliance function for SOX, PCI, and/or SOC1/2
- Managed business risk analyses to support operational and strategic enterprise level decisions, including presentations to the Board and its committees
- A Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school and in good standing with at least one US State Bar
