In this role, you will be the regional communication lead for a range of areas that are central to Visa’s growth and manage the communication needs of the relevant functional teams and oversee communication campaigns that reflect these areas’ increased importance to Visa’s long-term growth strategy. In addition to delivering high-quality communication programs, you will act as a trusted advisor to Visa’s leadership team in some of the region’s most complex functions, helping them talk about their business objectives in a way that has a meaningful impact in the communities in which we operate. You will also play a key role in ensuring the company’s public and client-facing messages in Asia Pacific are communicated with a whole-of-Visa perspective, coordinating across geographies to make sure all content, from press releases to speeches, is consistent and aligned. Why this is important to Visa In this role, you will be a member of a high-performing team charged with all aspects of corporate communication for critical business functions in Asia Pacific – areas that are focused on maintaining Visa’s leadership in an increasingly complex operating environment. As the Visa network evolves beyond plastic cards into a network of networks that can facilitate money movement to anyone, anywhere, it is essential to our long-term success that we communicate this evolution to all our constituents and define Visa as a purpose-driven payments technology company that enables individuals, businesses, and economies to thrive. Projects you will be a part of: This team creates and leads many of the highest profile communication programs in the region. We oversee the Asia Pacific communication strategy to define and articulate Visa’s network evolution as it relates to innovation, trust and corporate citizenship. On a tactical level, you’ll support the delivery of regional strategic events and play a key role in developing thought leadership content for senior leaders. You’ll also contribute to broader communication programs that the regional AP comms team is responsible for:

  • Small business programs and expanding merchant acceptance
  • Corporate storytelling to drive Visa’s critical growth pillars of value-added services and money movement
  • Regional positions on innovations shaping the payments landscape, such as data privacy and cybersecurity
  • Strategic initiatives
  • Reputation challenges and opportunities associated with all of the above, including defining the value of Visa and issues/crisis management.
You will lead or work on communication programs that incorporate every aspect of the communications discipline, including public relations and social media (press announcements, key messaging, media interviews, bylines), client-facing communication (leading development of client-facing thought leadership collateral, supporting major client events as run by the Client Communication team) and employee communication (working closely with the Employee Communication team to promote functional priorities on internal channels and at the annual regional market kickoff meeting.) You will work with the most senior leaders in the region to help them achieve their business objectives through strategic communication programs, and you will have a chance to work closely with colleagues in every market in Asia Pacific, as well as our global colleagues in the broader communication team. This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need a range of professional and technical skills. Most importantly, you must have a desire to learn and a willingness to apply that learning every day! The right candidate will have 12+ years of experience in communication (agency and/or in-house, with a mix of both being ideal) and a relevant university degree, with a deep knowledge of social and digital communication channels, and exceptional English writing skills that you can adapt for different formats and audiences. You’ll also have a proven track record leading communications programmes and acting as a trusted advisor to senior executives. You’ll need to have a strong interest and/or experience in adapting communication strategies and messaging across geographies, with an acute understanding of how the media operates in the different Asia Pacific markets. You’ll be able to think big-picture about how campaigns will resonate with different audiences and support market-based colleagues in bringing these stories to life. Technical expertise in the tools of communication will play an important role in your success in this role, including all Microsoft Office programs and social media engagement and amplification. What will also help: You’ll enjoy this role more if you’re intellectually curious, and excel in creative, solution-oriented problem solving. You should be a flexible thinker, able to make decisions based on limited or changing information and be able to adapt plans at the speed of a news cycle. To manage the wide range of stakeholders you’ll have in this role, you should be able to build a strong network of colleagues across functions and geographies. You’ll have a talent for uncovering newsworthy information that might be hiding in pockets of the organisation, while at the same time being able to coach stakeholders about what kind of information isn’t relevant to the outside world. Issues management and crisis communication is an area you’ll be exposed to, so proven experience in this space will serve you well.
