To support its ongoing growth, Oliver Wyman is seeking extraordinary individuals with deep expertise in finance and experience in team management to become Principals in its Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) Practice. This is an industry leading practice with clients containing the majority of Top Tier Investment Banks. The CIB Practice advises senior executives in investment banking, capital markets, large corporate banking, asset management, hedge funds and exchanges on a wide range of strategy issues. Macro- and micro-analyses are combined to provide a unique perspective on these evolving businesses. Oliver Wyman is widely recognized as an influential thought-leader in the commercial and institutional banking segment. Drawing on our deep knowledge of our clients’ businesses, as well as our own in-depth industry research and analysis, we focus on developing sustainable strategies for our clients to support their businesses in their ongoing evolution. What you will do Principals are experts in particular content areas and provide day-to-day leadership of complex client projects and aspects of the client relationship and commercial process, teaming with Partners. They ensure on-time delivery that meets or exceeds agreed upon goals, leveraging Oliver Wyman best practice, their own expertise and the firm’s technical competence. They become trusted advisors to senior clients, with the ability to guide and influence their thinking, and to be viewed as experts in particular content areas. Oliver Wyman Principals are seen as Partners of the future and, as such, are fully engaged in building business through identifying new and expanded opportunities; they create exciting and additive intellectual capital through thought leadership and are knowledgeable on a broad range of adjacent topics. Principals develop others and build a strong personal brand both within and outside the firm.
  • Managing the execution of individual project modules. This typically includes developing hypotheses, managing data collection, model creation and analyses, conducting primary and secondary research, creatively tackling information limitations, and surfacing insights.
  • Supporting our Partner group in project delivery through accurate and high-quality case execution
  • Owning and developing executive client relationships, presenting to a wide range of audiences, and working day-to-day with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Managing and developing the capabilities of junior consulting staff.
What you will bring: The Principal position offers excellent career and growth opportunities for talented, highly motivated professionals with significant prior experience.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years, ideally with a top-tier investment bank, strategy consulting firm or project-based, team-oriented environments.
  • Track record of leading and managing teams or work streams and delivering against tight deadlines in fast paced and demanding environments
  • Strong background in strategic problem solving with demonstrable analytical skills
  • Financial services industry knowledge, breadth across or depth within one of our practice areas is preferred.
  • Ability to apply content knowledge for thought leadership in project execution, develop new intellectual capital to support business development activities, and for Manager and Principal hires to lead these activities
  • Outstanding communication skills; confidence in presenting to senior executives
  • Undergraduate and/or advanced degree from a top academic program
  • Willingness to travel
