The team are responsible for the initiation of projects, working together with experts, at the start making sense of requirements to ensure we’re building the right thing, the right way . Using our expertise in road safety and safety in design to improve the safety and performance of the transport system. The opportunity |Te Whiwhinga mahi We are recruiting a Principal Safety Engineer for our Auckland team . In this role you will build the broad road safety picture for the region and develop the Agency response across the network . You will be fundamental in providing technical advice, providing support to Transport Services, Auckland T ransport and the Auckland System Management (Motorway Alliance). Your role will represent the Agency providing technical advice and supporting our System Design and Infrastructure Delivery teams to ensure that traffic and safety policies, procedures and standards are upheld.You will also lead the identification and assessment of safety improvements on the highway. Crucial to your success in this role will be working well with key internal and external stakeholder. The successful applicant will need to be an effective communicator, able to model team behaviours, and work well with others. This contributes to the Agency objective : delivering an integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable State Highway network. As a Principal Safety Engineer, you will also provide mentorship of Senior Safety Engineers and Safety Engineers in a geographically spread team . On top of this, there will be opportunities to represent the regional safety engineering teams on national safety programmes.   • Extensive experience working in a comparable position
  • Ability to apply a strategic context to project/policy development
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, inspiring and managing the delivery of innovative solutions
  • Ability to develop, influence and manage an extensive network of contacts/key stakeholders
  • Experience in making complex decisions based on clear supportive analysis
  • A high level of clear verbal and written communication
  • Strong drive for customer focus
  • Relevant tertiary and relevant post graduate qualification
  • Accreditation with relevant professional body & contribution to the industry
