About the Role | Kōrero mō te tūranga  As a Legal Counsel, reporting to the General Counsel, your role will have a regulatory and prosecutions focus within the legal team of six. You will provide advice on environmental compliance, monitoring, and enforcement issues, and will also conduct prosecution work on behalf of Council. In this varied and interesting role, you will be working with a wide range of legislation including the Local Government Act, Local Government Official Information & Meetings Act, and the Resource Management Act. About You │ Mōu To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A current New Zealand legal practising certificate
  • Circa 8+ years’ post qualification experience
  • Litigation experience, including criminal prosecutions and/or environmental matters
  • An understanding of the machinery of local government and political acumen
  • Strong cultural competency and/or commitment to developing in your knowledge of te ao Māori
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
