The Opportunity Our Management Accounting team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for a Finance Business Partner to join the team on a permanent, full time basis our busy Dunedin office. The purpose of this role is to provide timely and accurate financial management information and advice to management and the various teams within Council. This includes educating and upskilling managers and staff in specific areas on how to build and maintain consistent good financial practice. As a Finance Business Partner you will be responsible for:

  • Analysing and reporting monthly on financial areas including variance analysis
  • Supporting Budget Managers prepare their annual budgets including the LTP (Long Term Plan) and AP (Annual Plan)
  • Keeping financial forecasts up to date and understanding and communicating the funding implications
  • Understanding the links between non-financial and financial performance of allocated council operations and providing insightful commentary
  • Providing coaching to budget managers in financial reporting requirements and best practice
If you are an experienced finance professional with strong interpersonal skills who can partner with employees across an organisation, then this role is for you! About You Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor of Commerce Majoring in Accounting or Business
  • 10 years' experience providing financial management advice in a medium to large organisation
  • Advanced knowledge of computer-based accounting systems and office procedures
  • Knowledge of accounting requirements of the Local Government Act 2002.
  • Proven experience in budget management, financial management and modelling.
  • CA membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand
