Job Description The Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) defines and sets the strategy for commercialising data as an asset to advance OML’s business objectives and drive business value. The CDAO will focus on generating value from data, delivering on commercial outcomes and drive our AI ambition for South Africa and OMAR. Role Overview: The CDAO will lead our organisation's data and analytics strategy to drive informed decision-making that leads to increased sales and retention, enhance operational efficiency, and furthers our Digital and AI ambition. Furthermore, using analytics the CDAO will foster innovation in the rapidly evolving insurance industry. The CDAO will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of data management and analytics with the technology enablement and infrastructure support from the CTO. In addition, the CDAO is a business strategist who knows the flow of information, understands its context, and is aware of how it links across the enterprise regarding deriving value within and for the business. This role is responsible for P&L delivery of the data analytics objective of driving a data led organisation. The CDAO will inter alia be responsible for: Data Governance and Management • Building a data strategy and data Capability for South Africa and OMAR • Create mechanisms to use data as a strategic asset throughout the enterprise • Drive the efficient acquisition and governance of data • Drives the building of the processes, operating model and data operations to ensure the highest quality data • Drive the organizing and coordinating the organization’s disparate data streams in preparation for analytics and to promote holistic mission-critical analysis • Make data accessible to people who might need it • Create a culture that promotes data-driven decisions backed by investigation and collaboration around data • Locate the new and/or best sources for data to drive more effective and efficient analytics • Ensure data is appropriately secured and implement systems and tools that ensure data is ethically used. Data Commercialisation and Analytics: • Develop, define and drive the enterprise's strategy with regard to the exploitation of analytics to achieve specific business targets • Responsible for value extraction from Advanced Analytics • Drive the exploration, initiation and implementation of new value generating use cases • Collaborate with stakeholders to set policy and standards regarding the use of analytics in the organization • Innovate and expand the organization’s research and analytics offerings • Oversee the development of analytic metrics that establish a consistent, coherent approach to data throughout the organization to tie analytics into all enterprise functions • Measure the ROI of analytics initiatives and create a standard benchmark program for measuring analytics value • Leverage big data in collaboration with the CTO to build and embed AI capabilities that deliver highest commercial value • Driving New Projects in field of Advanced analytics: Big Data, Social Network Analysis, Touch Point, Customer segmentation. • Ways of working: define, pilot and scale test and learn capabilities for driving the defined outcomes, including the formation of cross-functional collocated personalization teams that may include Customer Experience Management, Channel representatives (direct, digital and intermediated), Marketing, Analytics and Campaign coordinators. Success in the role will require client-facing activity and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish, build and maintain positive relationships collaborating at all levels with clients and stakeholders both internally and externally. An intimate understanding of Advanced Analytics in a Financial Services Organization including emerging trends in the use of AI, ML and Cloud based Data Analytics Platforms and leveraging agile ways of working in creating cross-functional multi-disciplinary teams will be necessary to deliver in a fast-moving Customer Obsessed business.   Key Result Areas 1. Business Value Realization: • Prioritize the delivery of measurable business benefits as outcomes from data and analytics solutions. • Drive value realization by creating innovative data products that directly contribute to business success. • Drive operational efficiencies through the us of data and AI. 3. Winning the war on Talent: • Drive the development of key Advanced Analytics skills across the Old Mutual territories • Implement new ways of working in conceiving change and in delivery 4. Risk management: • Manage the unit within the appropriate risk and compliance frameworks. 5. Data Governance and Compliance: • In-depth understanding of data governance principles and a track record of establishing effective governance frameworks. • Ensure compliance with relevant data regulations and industry standards 6. Commercial orientation: • Drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics in driving personalized conversations with customer and intermediaries • Drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics use cases across the OML business value chain 7. Signature epics: • Drive the strategy and execution of a Data Analytics Platform that will be leveraged by enterprise users of data across the enterprise • Drive the strategy and execution of a Personalization platform that will be leveraged by channel to drive hyper-personalized conversations with customers and intermediaries. Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required • +10 years leading an Advanced analytics function, preferably in a Financial services organization • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership in shaping and executing data and analytics initiatives. • Visionary thinking to anticipate industry trends and drive innovation. • Excellent business judgment, analytic and problem-solving skills, with experience applying these skills to analyze large, complex and multi-dimensional data sets • 5 years’ experience in people management, leading teams and motivating people. • Proven ability to drive cross functional collaborations and build consensus • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders • Strong blend of strategic perspectives, business acumen and technical knowledge • Driven, high energy level and proven record of driving results • Relevant post graduate studies (e.g., Degree in Data Science, Actuarial Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, Statistics, Information Systems, Applied Math)• MBA is advantageous Competencies • Collaboration (Relating)• Customer First • Execution • Innovation (Perspective)• Leading with Influence • Personal Mastery (Learning)• Strategic Skills Advanced Analytics, Business, Business Values, Data Analysis, Data Analytics, Informed Decision Making, Strategic Education Bachelors Degree (B) (Required) Closing Date 22 December 2023 The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question.
