The strategy employs bottom-up and deep fundamental research insights to create a concentrated market-neutral portfolio of high conviction long and short investments.We are recruiting for a Senior Associate to join the North American team focusing on companies that support the electrification of the North American economy ("Electrification") as it transitions to one less reliant on fossil fuels. Reporting to a Managing Director, Active Equities - North America, the Senior Associate is responsible for conducting deep bottom-up fundamental research primarily on Electrification investment ideas and current portfolio holdings as well as executing private investments in public entities ("PiPEs"). The position is based in Toronto.Position RequirementsRole specific accountabilities include:Work directly with investment professionals on the Electrification and Automobility domain teams to evaluate potential long and short public and pre-IPO investment opportunitiesWith guidance, execute investment research and recommendations leveraging domain expertise and deep fundamental research insights within Electrification (e.g. generation, transmission, distribution and related products and serviesc etc.)Develop detailed company financial models and perform valuation analysis, including DCF and comparable company analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisionsPrepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment memos and due diligence reviewsResearch, analyze and monitor macro level Electrification industry trends and fundamental performance of existing portfolio holdingsParticipate in meetings with company management teams, industry experts and analystsIncreasingly incorporate added research insights by leveraging alternative data setsQualificationsIf you possess the following, we'd like to hear from you:The ideal candidate will possess 5-7 years of experience working for an investment management, private equity, investment bank or management consulting firmDeep knowledge of electricity generation (including renewables), regulated and non-regulated utilities, stationary power storage, electrical equipment, power management products and services, related E&C activities and EV chargingHave a deep passion and interest in investing and the energy transitionA minimum of an undergraduate degree; engineering and/or an advanced degree (Masters, MBA, etc.) an assetAchieved high levels of academic performance and exhibit intellectual curiosityStrong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, technical and problem-solving skills; ability to think creativelyCore technical skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Bloomberg, CapIQAdvanced technical skills an asset: Python, SQL, exposure to Big Data workflows and analytic toolsStrong communication, written and verbal, skillsHighly detail-oriented with an ability to produce high quality workAbility to prioritize work and simultaneously manage multiple responsibilitiesTeam-oriented and collaborativeKeen interest in capital markets and the investment research processExemplify CPP Investment's Guiding Principles: Integrity, Partnership and High PerformanceAdditional InformationVisit our LinkedIn Career Page or Follow us on LinkedIn.
