Job details

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Responsibilities

  • Build highly scalable statistical models leveraging machine learning and deep learning methods that interpret customer usage trends, optimize performance, and provide insights to improve Rivian products.

  • Develop domain-specific digital twins in collaboration with the vehicle controls SW engineers to mimic and adapt the overall electric vehicles' performance.

  • Develop statistical & machine learning models to estimate trip energy consumption, charging behavior, battery aging, and remaining useful life.

  • Ship and deploy ML models for various vehicle domains to improve electric vehicles' efficiency across operating conditions.

  • Work cross-functionally with Vehicle Controls domain experts and other data stakeholders to specify, implement, and deliver meaningful insights for electric vehicle controls and propulsion.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. required in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent STEM domain.

  • 3+ years of experience in a data science role with an emphasis on vehicle software or robotics.

  • Deep understanding of machine learning techniques, including deep learning (DL) and reinforcement learning (RL).

  • Strong knowledge in mathematical modeling, RNNs, CNNs, Transformers, LSTMs, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, GANs, and time-series analysis and modeling of dynamic systems.

  • Experience with Electric vehicle controls and propulsion (High Voltage Batteries, Energy Management, Charging, Vehicle Suspension).

  • A record of accomplishment in AI/ML research filed with publications in top conferences, journals, or other research artifacts such as software projects.

  • Expert using Python, PySpark, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including working in a dynamic team and communicating ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
