Overview:

National Debt Advisors are in the process of creating a Business Intelligence (BI) Team to deliver business insight from data analytics to guide strategy, approach and execution. Suitable candidates need the experience and skill set to drive forward a newly created Business Intelligence team. Finding insight in data is half the story, validating the findings and delivering value is the goal of the BI Team. Our remit ranges from short term tactical wins to steering mid-long term business strategy, innovation and creating new opportunities.

We are looking for highly intelligent, self-motivated, hardworking and conscientious applicants to help build the BI Team into an influential department in the company. Applicants must exhibit an assertive attitude, with expectations of self-learning and occasionally working out of regular hours to meet deadlines. Integrity is a pre-requisite as data is the IP of the company is valuable and open to POPI scrutiny.

Responsibilities:

The role of BI is not to do work for people but wherever possible to empower them to do better work for themselves

- Managing projects, workloads and deliveries of the BI Team

- Responsible for the BI strategic road map for the next 2-5 years

- Attending senior management meetings

- Managing the business data requirements - getting the right data and answers to make key decisions in a timely manner

- Analysing internal and external data, profiling data, deriving conclusions and further actions

- Automating current reporting

- Generating dashboards and other new methods of visualising data

- ROI, P&L and cost benefit analysis

Business skills:

- Understanding business requirements - gaining deeper business insight to really understand the changing market environment

- Speaking to the business, listening to issues, interpreting requirements

- Prioritising internal clients and solutions

- Ensuring buy-in and continued use

- Project management of chosen solutions

- Presenting data in a business context rather than from an IT perspective

- Quantifying results and delivering conclusions

- Packaging and automating solutions so the same question can be asked again as needed

Technical Skills:

- Sufficient understanding and technical skills to lead and manage their team

- Identifying, filtering, and preparing relevant data from a vast sea of frequently irrelevant data

- Joining data from multiple input sources and channels

- Developing complex methodologies to process data based on business criteria

- Reviewing and validating your work as erroneous data will discredit all your hard work

PostgreSQL:

- At least 6 months commercial experience with SQL databases and executing queries

- Preferably proficient with PostgreSQL

- Other SQL languages could also be acceptable such as MYSQL or MS SQL

RegEx:

- Understanding of Regular Expressions syntax to match & parse strings

Alteryx Designer:

- Any knowledge of Alteryx Designer a bonus but not necessary

- Similar software is Microsoft Visio - experience with this would be useful

Database experience:

- Some experience with commercial SQL databases (not just academic)

- DB management and maintenance

- Connection strings

- Data quality and integrity

Excel Skills:

- Advanced level - Excel competency

- Commercial use of excel to produce reports, graphs and perform data analytics

- Defining tables and ranges, reference formulas and conditional formulas, formatting dates and times, array formulas (CSE), pivot tables and sub totals, including commercial use to produce reports, graphs, and perform data analytics

- MS VBA not necessary but welcome

Mathematical, Statistical and Logical skills Array formulas (CSE):

- At least A-level mathematics

- Preferably a degree related to programming and mathematics

- Basic Statistics and analysis - Sum of least squares, multiple regression analysis, normal distributions

- Basic Set Theory

- Ability to understand logical and conditional expressions

Not required but a bonus:

- Experience with Call Centres - especially Diallers and PDA systems (Payment Distribution Agency)

- HTML / PHP / Python

- API integration skillsets
