Natural Resources are urgently seeking a SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER (UNIX) who will be based in Qatar on a long term residential position working in our client's Information/Communications Technology Department who will be responsible for the strategic on-going planning, design and enhancement of client's Unix & Linux environment. The focus will be on providing robust, highly available, responsive, secure and scalable Unix and Linux environments such as AIX, Solaris, Red hat and SUSE Linux on IBM, Sun and Intel hardware respectively while minimising Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and maximising Return on Investment (ROI). By using new emerging technologies, best practices, policies, processes, procedures and management of staff to define, implement and ensure continuity of state of the art environment. As a subject matter expert provide technical lead to ICT management and staff while providing 2nd & 3rd level support for engineers and technicians during and after office hours.
Experience/Qualifications
• 10 plus years technical experience with IBM Power Series and Intel X-86 Hardware, Super Cluster, AIX and Linux RedHat/SUSE OS, server management, directory structures, virtualization, racks and cable management.
• Well-versed in project management tools and methodologies such as PMI's or PRINCE2
• Working knowledge of remote control access products, backup software (IBM TSM, COMM Vault and DELL EMC data protection), fail over and load balancing clusters, Storage Area Networking (SAN) is highly desirable.
• Prior experience in systems architecture, ability to troubleshoot complex systems, hands on experience with different backup and recovery concepts.
• Prior experience with cloud service providers (Oracle Cloud or Azure or AWS), Cloud Data migration, Cloud backup concepts
• Experience in disaster recovery and high availability implementations and their setup.
• Experience in managing and executing multiple high value ICT Projects on time and within budget.
• Experience in structuring and implementing systems integration using industry standard technology.
• Demonstrates a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
• Ability to operate independently using mature judgment in planning and performing assignments and achieving defined objectives
• Excellent people management, problem solving, persuasion, negotiation, and decision- making skills and team player
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate concepts as appropriate to customers, contractors, and staff
• Domain knowledge of Oil and Gas business is desired.
• A minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline
• Certified in Solaris, AIX and Linux OS administration.
