SUMMARY
The Construction Manager primarily works with the project managers in the construction of new structures. The Manager directs and coordinates the activities of Carpenters, Equipment Operators, Iron Workers, etc. on site. The Construction Manager also ensures that the work progress according to schedule, that material and equipment are delivered to the site on time, and that the activities of the various workers do not interfere with one another. The Manager supervises all these activities by talking with and directing the foremen for the different trades or craft workers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma or equivalent
• Two years of supervisory experience in building construction work
CREDENTIALS AND/OR SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of all phases of building construction-especially high-rise buildings, including work commonly done by the various building crafts
• Experience in and knowledge of USAID projects
• Knowledge of building materials, tools, and machines
• Ability to read blueprints and specifications for building
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
• Organize and coordinate the work of craft employees on construction projects
• Keep cost records on work performed and materials
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, project managers, design architects and engineers
• Assure compliance with construction design guidelines and timelines
• Review engineering plans and specifications
• Work with project manager on establishing a budget
• Develop labour projections and ensure projects are managed within budget
• Perform required coordination with project architects, engineers and contractors
• Control and report project progress
• Must maintain a close and highly responsive relationship to the day to day project-related work, work fairly independently and receive a minimum of detailed supervision and guidance.
