Amazon is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Senior Operations Engineer to be a part of our team developing and delivering the next generation of world-class fulfillment systems. As an Senior Operations Engineer for Amazon Fulfillment, you will work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, development, and delivery of physical distribution systems around the globe. You are responsible for managing a technology or integration project, successfully delivering the solution to meet project goals. You may work directly with external equipment vendors, customers, or partners, and you have a solid understanding of the design approaches and industry technologies utilized in fulfillment and distribution center designs. To meet timelines and minimize disruption to support teams, you manage the overall schedule, proactively mitigate risks, and keep the scope of engineering deliverables under control. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative environment. Key job responsibilities - Work independently with internal and external engineering teams to successfully deliver cross-functional projects that are of a high-quality (e.g., on-time, on-budget, maintainable, low-defects, etc.). - Partner with project managers and external vendors to set project priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet a deadline. - Influence technical documentation content, perform documentation review, dive deep into system layouts and solutions. - Competently represent system and/or equipment designs to both customers and other teams. - Communicate project status, effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularly produce clear and concise summaries for the projects you own to your leadership/management team. - Excel at developing good working relationships with vendors, engineers, managers, and peers. - Participate in design reviews and support execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout. - Efficiently manage budget documents, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing. - Build strong working relationships with FC/SC leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites as well as their Launch, Facilities, Finance, Safety, Process Engineers, and other business stakeholders. - Identify and lead process improvement initiatives in support of operations teams within a geographic node. - Travel up to 50% domestically although travel intensity can be variable and consist of up to three weeks in a row, including weekends. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree - 5+ years of directly managing and responsible for multiple large projects experience - Experience and strong technical background in relevant fields of automated or non-automated material handling equipment PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field - Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and other operations engineer tools - Fluency in French, Spanish, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Afrikaans or Zulu Acknowledgement of country: In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
