Job Responsibilities Develop and review syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment, and teaching and learning strategies within the department. Monitor and follow up on student progress. Collaborate with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives, and strategic plans that are coherent and relevant to student needs and aligned with the school's goals. Be accountable for the development and support of the department’s curriculum. Stay updated with developments in the subject area, teaching practices, and methodologies. Undertake performance management reviews and act as a reviewer for staff within the department. Arrange classes during staff absences, ensuring appropriate cover in coordination with relevant staff. Participate in the interview process for new teaching staff and facilitate induction programs in line with school procedures. Promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective collaboration. Manage daily staff operations within the department and serve as a positive role model. Establish and maintain consistent standards of practice and enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. Contribute to lesson observation procedures. Ensure departmental members are familiar with aims and objectives aligned with the School Development Plan. Maintain effective communication with parents regarding student progress. Engage in regular professional development training sessions. Support the school's aims and ethos as outlined in the Mission Statement. Set an example through dress, punctuality, and attendance. Perform additional tasks or projects as assigned by school management. Qualifications and Experience Minimum Qualification: M.Ed, B.Ed, or relevant Bachelor's Degree with a Teaching Qualification Experience: At least 5 years Nationality: Western-trained (USA, Canada, UK, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) Language: Native English speaker Additional Qualifications: Degree in English with PGCE and QTS Leadership Experience: Minimum 2 years as Head of Department Preferred Experience: Working in an Islamic faith school, international experience Note: Newly qualified teachers and Open University qualifications are not considered; experienced teachers without qualifications are also not accepted.
