Careem operates in over 70 cities across 10 countries, from Morocco to Pakistan.The Team The Careem Data and ML Platform team’s mission is to provide a platform to abstract big data complexities and enable fast, reliable, and secure access to data. As a member of this team, you will work with top regional talent, leveraging modern machine learning, big data tools, and techniques to solve daily problems on our in-house data platform, serving users in real-time. This role involves working with open source technologies like Apache Spark, Kafka, and Trino, with opportunities for open source collaboration.What You'll Do Bring innovative and creative solutions to data engineering challenges to develop a modern data platform with reusable components.Design, architect, implement, and test prototypes to demonstrate data value and present findings to diverse audiences.Optimize code efficiency, resource usage, and compute workloads.Improve engineering processes, testing, and systems to scale the codebase and team productivity.Collaborate globally in a fast-paced environment.Create reusable and scalable data pipelines.What You’ll Need10+ years of hands-on software development experience.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.Expertise in Scala, Java, or similar languages.Experience building distributed systems or large-scale projects.Deep understanding of cloud-native Big Data technologies.Solid software engineering principles and design practices.Passion for high-quality, maintainable, and performant software in a collaborative team.Experience with cloud control planes (AWS, GCP) or database internals, including query optimization.Open-source contributions preferred.Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.What We’ll Provide You Opportunities to impact the region, learn, and grow, including: Work with inspiring colleagues.Contribute to a purposeful organization.Continuous learning opportunities.Flexible work arrangements: 4 days in-office & 1 day remote, or 2 in-office & 3 remote for tech roles, plus 30 days remote annually.Healthcare and fitness benefits.Additional Details Seniority level: Mid-Senior level Employment type: Full-time Job function: Engineering and ITIndustries: Technology, Internet, IT Services & Consulting #J-18808-Ljbffr
